Ohhh..A horrible thought entered my mind just now..What if it's Lucious Malfoy??
Isn't he in Azkaban now?? I remember at the end he was caught in the Ministry of Magic and it was found out that he was a Death Eater...

Lots to think about though!!!

Yeah, this is who I think it is as well. JK has said that many of the clues to the series are in COS, and she has also said that a chapter of this current book was originally in COS (I want to say the first chapter, but I'm not entirely sure). If you stop and think about it, COS has a very large subplot involving Hagrid--Aragog, the actual COS and who originally opened it, etc. He is a half-blood, he was expelled and is an outcast, so to speak, and every book has had some significant subplot involving him. Also, Hagrid is "The Keeper of the Keys" at Hogwarts. Nothing with JK is accidental. I think it's Hagrid.

The barman definitely has to be Aberforth, especially when you add into the equation that Dumbledore knew Harry was in the Hogshead discussing the D.A. (how else would Hagrid know if Dumbledore didn't know?).

Just think, this time next week, some of us will have already finished the book! It will not have been me of course, I can't stay up that late and function.

Yup Yup but it was Mundungus I think who was in the bar at the 1st DA meeting, he was the one wrapped in bandages(keeping an eye on Harry I think). But yeah on pg 336 we are given a description of the barman, and he physically seems similar to DD. And Harry senses something familair about him.

If you haven't checked out the Lexicon's Forum you should. At the VERY end of the forum the have a chat thread transcript with JKR. Lotsa good info to keep the fires of theory burning.

I personally think that socks play a major role in the fight against evil :LOL

drat! You're right! I'd forgotten about that! I periodically check out the Lexicon. I primarily do my HP sleuthing over at the Mugglenet site though, just to see if JK has put anything new onto her site.

Well, I JUST ordered my copy tonight. I went with amazon b/c I had a credit there and they guarantee delivery on Sat or the book is free. My post office is pretty unreliable- so if I don't get it on Sat, at least it will be free. I hate driving at night so I won't be going to any midnight parties.

I'm going to listen to my cds of Order of the Phoenix this week in preparation.

I love discussion on this!!!

I guess that Percy will be the new Minister of Magic

Does anyone know the clue that JKR revealed in her "room"
I am not sure if i think that describes Crookshanks or someone else. I almost thought it was MadEye at first. Hmmm

I am very torn about who i think the HBP is. I thought Hagrid, and then Krum. DH thinks it is Seamus Finnigan. I am leaning towards Hagrid, Seamus or a new person we havent really seen much of or at all. So decisive, arent I? :LOL

I think we will find out a lot more about who Gryffindor was. I think Harry is in his bloodline. Or do we already know that? I am currently rereading GOF so i am getting all confused!

must stop reading and go to bed!

cant wait til friday night!!!

okay , so i'm reading Sorcerer's Stone again and why did I not remember that Neville is not pure-blood? I mean, I guess he couldn't be the HPB but he definitely says in his initial description of how he came to discover that he had magical abilities that at first they (his family) thought he was "all Muggle" --that's his wording. Another thing I never thought of until rereading this time is the significance of Neville being put in Gryffindor. With a few notable exceptions--like him trying to stop them leaving the common room in Sorcerer's Stone--he has seemed more, well, Hufflepuff-ish...until OOtP of course. I just think it's interesting that I suppose I should have realized all along he had it in him, but I didn't--I'm really curious to see how his role develops/changes in this book.

As for whether Harry dies in book 7...well, I guess that's a distinct possibility but I'll just remain in denial. Every time I read some mention JKR has made of it though I feel like she suggests he's not going to make it--I know I'm paranoid. I just can't imagine that with the following of young readers she has earned she would end the series by killing off a character that so many kids have grown so attached to, you know? My kids would be so sad--that would almost be like losing a friend--I would be so sad!

Here's a question to put out there...JKR says on her site that one of the two questions she's never had anybody ask her and she thinks someone should have is this: Everyone always asks why did Harry live the night Voldemort tried to kill him but nobody has ever asks why didn't Voldemort die? If he did Avada Kedavra, a killing curse, on baby Harry and it reflected back on him, why did Voldemort not die? And more importantly, what are the implications of this (his inability to die) with respect to the prophecy??
What do you guys think?

Perhaps Hagrid is the half blood prince- of the giants?

I think in the last book, it was stated that he is. I would have to look up the direct quote, but I beleive in regards to the prophecy, Dumbledore said that Voldemort chose the half blood like himself (Harry) instead of the pure blood (Neville).

That's Bellatrix Lestrange. The only female death eater mentioned yet.
You are right. :
It does seem odd. There are so many married couples and women involved in the Order...

In GOF doesn't Voldemort talk about the measures he took to make sure he wouldn't die if something happened to him? I think he will be killed in the last book and it will be a real death. Maybe he used up his "life" when he came back from the "almost dead" this last time and won't be able to do it again.

As for Neville, Dumbledore does states that Neville is pure-blood when he's discussing the prophecy with Harry. It looks like a big deal because the prophecy states that one will mark the other as equal so Vold saw Harry as equal to himself since Harry wasn't pureblood.

I think they just thought Neville was "all muggle" because he didn't display ANY magical tendecies at all until he got dropped out the window by his uncle and bounced down the street. Even squibs are supposed to have a little bit of magic, aren't they?? Arabella Figg could see the dementors even though she was a squib but Dudley couldn't. So I think they just thought he was hopeless.

The quote about Lucius being in Azkaban is right, I had forgotten about that. But he'll be in there for about 5 seconds.

I don't know about Percy. I guess I could see it but he was such a fan of Fudge and Fudge is definetly out since he botched everything up not believing Vold was back. So I don't think Percy will be too popular around the ministry. I could almost see Percy going over to the dark side. He's very power hungry!!

On another note, I had a dream that I worked at Target last night and got hold of a book a few days early and read the last few chapters when I was supposed to be working. But I can't remember what they said!!! That's what I get for posting about this right before I go to sleep.

Also, NBC's Today show said it was going to be "Harry Potter" week for them so they'll be having some HP related things on the show this week. I won't get to see it since we're leaving tomorrow but it might be good. I think Katie Couric is doing an interview with JKR later in the week.

One of the clues revealed on rowling.com was that Chapter 14 was entitled 'Felix Felicitis" I assume Felix is a new character--his name means "lucky or happy". I don't think he could be the new DADA as chapter 14 is pretty far into the book to be introducing someone like that.

Hagrid as the Prince? hmm..way cool. You'd think though after his time with the giants sorta inquiring about his mom, Hagrid would have heard about her royal heritage. Maybe he did and didn't want to discuss it.

Re: Voldemort's "inability" to die. I think because he used Harry's blood to come back in GOF, he now has some mortal/human-ness in him and now CAN die. Hence the 'look of triumph" in Dumbledore's eyes mentioned toward the end of GOF. PERHAPS because he is sooo connected to Harry now, that if Harry is hurt by Voldemort, it will be V who actually dies and Harry lives (because of his Mum's protection(?)) Or maybe some connection with the Phoenix.
That look of triumph really bothered me in GOF. It weirded me out that Dumbledore was triumphant about anything regarding Voldemort's return.

Percy as Minister is interesting. He's such a prat, though... I definitely see him going over to the dark side. But, maybe that's just what she *wants* us to think.

Re: Voldemort not dying... In one of the books, GOF I think, Voldemort mentions that he is very disappointed in his death eaters that they didn't seek him out after he was "killed". He mentions the steps that he's taken to preserve himself from death. He's done *something* to make himself unable to die. I have no clue what that could be.

What clue was revealed in JKR's room?

In August Jo Rowling put what we can only assume was an HBP excerpt behind the mysterious "Do Not Disturb" door on JKRowling.com. Spoiler alert!:
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!

"He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp."

In addition, on Halloween, the JKRowling.com "Do Not Disturb" door opened to reveal three chapter titles:
Chapter 2: Spinners End ~Anyone else think this is in reference to Aragog?
Chapter 6: Draco's Detour
Chapter 14: Felix Felicis

Here's a silly question...why is everyone assuming that there will be a new minister of magic? Did I miss something? Even though Fudge botched Voldy's return stuff, that's not enough for him not to be minister anymore, is it?

eta: I want to know why chocolate seems so important. It helped in the recovery from dementors and the chocolate frog cards seem to be more than just something fun.

While I am rereading, I have been writing in the back of my book questions I want answered. :LOL

Here's one-
Why was Molly so worried when her family, Harry and Hermione were on the way home from the Quidditch world cup? She has that funky clock that tells where her family is.

Okay why am I not getting anymore emails about this thread I'm falling behind!!
I ordered mine from amazon, geez I',m jumping for joy waiting, can we say stalker. My only prob is I'm down south at the moment and my other five books are back home in coloardo what if I need a referance? Plus I need to finish reading the wizard and the glass by saturday!
I think teh HBP may be snape also. Dumbledore keeps talking about how much he trsust him adn he has helped them with great personal threat to himself. Coudl snape be voldermort's son????

Choclate is importent even to us in the non magical mystical world of harry potter. A lot of women even crave it during PMS becasue it makes you feel SO much better. I totally related to teh choclate part. When DH would call from work and I would complain that the kids were freaking me out he would come home with reese cups or three musketeer bars for me. :cry that was so sweet geez I miss him.
BTW Fudge had been screwing up big time I can'ts ee why they would keep him after that. I don't think it will be Percy though, he's too young IMO.

Oh yeah, he'll be out in no time, but I don't think he will be able to hide who he supports anymore, so in regards to the new Minister, iI certainly don't think it will be him!
