At what age did you child start using a pillow? When is it safe?

We co-sleep with our now 13 month old DS... he is starting to show interest in using our pilows (or using my arm or belly as a pillow) I don't know if I should let him or not?

Sorry, yet another dopey question :

My son started using pillows around a year, I think (can't really remember that far back!). Maybe even earlier.

My mom made my dd a little 12X12 pillow out of double layered fleece with batting in the middle. Dd loves to sleep with it but not actually on it. I would not give her anything larger than that. She is 27 mos and started wanting the pillow about 6 mos ago. I know that Pottery Barn makes cute little pillows for kids, if you want to buy one.

DS (15 mos) has started to sleep on my arm, so I'm trying to transition him to the pillow. I haven't found one as flat as my arm yet!!

We have a little throw pillow (about 10x10) that our daughter (17 mo) enjoys walking around with and laying down on if she is tired. Also, in the evenings, if she is slowing down and we are all lounging together, she will pull a pillow off the couch sometimes and lay down with us. That said, I wouldn't dream of putting a pillow in her crib with her, I don't think it is safe, and I also don't think it is best for her. her head is still big enough relative to her shoulders that she doesn't need that support in the same way we do, and clearly it would place her out of line on her back. I think that laying on Mommy is often a snuggly/closeness thing, and laying on pillow is copying us, not necessarily what she needs.

Our DS (now 26 mos.) started using a pillow around 23 mos. It's a standard-size pillow, but much flatter than the ones DH and I use.

Hi Everyone I'm new here. My name is Tara and ds is 24 mos and his name is Brian. My user name is spelled wrong and I did not notice it until today this is off the questions but does anybody know how to fix tha.

Now to the topic that is being discussed my ds used standard sized pillows when he was 3 mos old. In fact he had two of them do to the fact he always was conjested (sp) but mainly it up to your preference and how well you think your child will do on the pillow is my opinion. Every child is different

DS is 17 months old, we cosleep, and he started wanting a pillow at around 14 months probably...just last month I got an idea to use one of the firmer, thinner body pillows we have across the top of the bed for all of us to use, because I was worried about giving him his own pillow, but him scooching around and slipping down between pillows and breathing stale air all night.....

The body pillow works great - we have a queen, and all three of us can fit out heads on it, and no gaps for him to fall in between!!

We got DS a little "crib pillow" at Ikea when he was about a year. Although we put him down with his head on the pillow, he never sleeps that way... I think it's as much of a lovey now as his blankie is!

Dakota had a pillow in his bed from the time he came out of the crib, about 18 months. At first it was an old couch pillow about 12 by 12. Then he got a real pillow at about age 2. For a long time he didn't sleep on it, but had it near him. Now he sleeps on his pillow and sometimes under it, just like his daddy.

My ds started using a travel/boudoir size pillow at about 13 months. It's small and very flat, filled with organic cotton and buckwheat hulls. I had to mail order it to find one small enough and in nice natural materials.

ds started using a pillow around 18 months. My mom made him some special pillow cases which he loves. They are made from flannel prints, and he calls it his "special pillow."

MY dd is 15 mo and she has been using one for about a month now. Its just a small lil throw pillow size but she loves it and carries it all over the house. when we get ready for nap or bed she calls for her "lo" its so cute

When dd moved to her "big girl bed" at 18m, we put a pillow on the bed. It was one of our oldest, flattest pillows - not too fat and poofy.
