postpartum cloth pads question....

Hi,
I am thinking ahead to the baby's birth and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good number of postpartum cloth pads, and regular cloth pads. What are your favorites and how many layers of material are in them.

I am prone to yeast infections so I definitely want to use cloth after the birth since it is so much more breathable.

Thanks,

This may sound strange but for the first week or so postpartum I used cloth diaper doublers. We had them on hand and weren't using them and so I thought I would give it a try. They worked like a charm and washed up fine.

I have never used cloth for post partum, so this is going to be my first time, but I do have very heavy periods and have some favorites for overnight. I really like snoogiesnaps super AIO pads. You can custom order them in several different fabrics, mine are hemp fleece and fleece waterproof layer. I only have two, but I am thinking that I will need at least 6 more for post partum. I usually wash my pads with ds's dipes every other day. I have about 14 large pads, and then about 8 smaller pads. That seems to be plenty for a normal period.

I saw someone recommend on MDC using prefold diapers for the first few days of pp flow which is usually really heavy. I actually started using infant lightweight prefolds at nighttime when I got PPAF back which is very heavy. It works WAY better for me than any other nighttime pad. For regular stuff to use for AF I swear by Freshies at www.allnaturalmamas.com I've tried some other cloth brands which were ok, but Freshies are awesome! Congrats!

Last time I used premium prefolds. They were too long but what I had on hand. If I had had more infants that would have been great. I did get some pp pads but only a dozen and so I went through those really quickly and was washing every day. I usually bleed really heavily the first week. Since it worked last time I am just going to use the same prefolds again this time.

Will preemie prefolds work, or should it be infant size?
I bled very heavy for the first 1.5 weeks with my daughter so I definitely want to make sure I have enough pads. I have 2 dozen preemie prefolds and I doubt they will fit my baby since I usually have 9 lb babies.

How do you use prefolds as pp pads?

I use new moon sweet cheeks pads for my regular period (and as panty liners while pregnant). For pp when the flow is really heavy I am thinking of using prefolds. There are a few things I wonder about though:

(1) How do you hold the prefold in place? Just trifold and put it in your underwear--does it fit okay or did you have to get some extra big underwear?

(2) Do you just throw the prefolds in with your diaper laundry, or do you soak them in some special solution (e.g. hydrogen peroxide or oxyxlean) first?

It's funny, I've never had a problem holding my pads in place. They just stay without any reason to do so except panties. I just throw them in the washer alone, together. Wash on hot and dry. Done.
