Ugh...I knew this would happen....*UPDATE*

My ds's day-care opened a parenting resource center. It has books and tapes that are donated by other parents. I stopped by there yesterday just to see what they had and I saw Babywise. There was also a Sears book though. I'm going to donate what books I have to try to counter the Babywise. I'm also going to send this email to the center. Let me know what you think or if there is anything I should add.

I am writing this to plead with you to take the Babywise book and any books or tapes you have that are written by Gary Ezzo out of the reach of impressionable parents who might follow his practices. His parenting practices such as scheduled breast-feeding have been linked to numerous cases of failure to thrive in infants. He has also been excommunicated from his church due to his failure to heed their warnings to change his philosophies and practices. His books promote corporal punishment and crying it out practices very early in a child's life. I urge you to research more about Gary Ezzo and his books at www.ezzo.info

Please look carefully at any books or tapes that come into your center. As a parent who works full time I have to work extra hard to make sure my son has a secure attachment to me. I would assume this is the case with most parents at you center. There are many parenting books out there (such as Babywise) who promote nothing but detachment from your child. There are many young impressionable parents who might fall victim to bad advise from so called "experts".

I have several books that I would be willing to donate to fill the void left by taking the Babywise book out of your parenting resource center. I have "The Happiest Toddler on the Block", "How to Talk So Your Kids Will Listen" and one by Dr. William Sears (I cannot recall the name at the moment).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks.

Here is the directors response to my email. I'm so happy!!

Thank you SO MUCH for your information! Angie and I have removed and DESTROYED that book. Someone must have donated it and I didn't screen the book. I am so sorry and grateful for parents like you who are alert and aware to Dangerous Advise from NUTS. I will be very aware from now on to screen everything that goes out into the resource cabinet. We would love to have any parenting books donated by you that could help our families. Thank you again for your help. I want you to know that you CAN make a difference in people's lives.
God Bless,

A well-put letter. Good for you for making a stand!! (those books you have are good ones - they've helped me tremendously!)

What a great response! Yay for you (and all those kids you saved from that horrible advice). Now write another letter to Barnes and Noble and ask them to stop carrying that filth. :

Yay to the center for taking that blasted book off of the shelves!

Good for you for letting them know, and what an awesome response! It must be great to have child care that you can have so much faith in!

Wow, mama, that's so great! I know there are a lot of people who would have been too shy to write a letter like that. I'm proud of you (and proud of them for listening!)!

This part has me spitting coffee on the keyboard, it's so funny.

I'd *think* most day care's would know that corporal punishment (a la Ezzo) is OUT. At least all the one's I looked at. Now, if we could get Alfie Kohn's work into the Early Childhood Ed, programs, I'd be set!

Yea!!! There is hope! Where we live, I see Ezzo classes at so many churches. I'm so glad to see that your day care has such compassionate and educated leadership.

What a GREAT letter, and while I don't condone book destruction in general I can't think of a book I would rather see ripped to bits.

That's awesome!
