Questionable boy name??

OK, so I LOVE tha name Nova. I swore if I had a girl that would be her name. But, I am having a boy, and at first it was out. But now, I'm thinkin' maybe would work for a boy?? Why not right? Cool name, just because it ends in an a dosn't mean it has to be only for a girl. Any opinions on Nova as a boys name??

We're having a boy and he's probably going to get a name which ends in an "A". But in the country where the name originates, it is a boy's name. I'm sure there will be a ton of ppl here which confuse him for a girl, on paper. Oh well. Everyone I've mentioned the name to loves it for a boy.

Oooh! Love that name! I think it works equally well for a boy or a girl. Congrats!

Sounds gender neutral to me!

I agree that it sounds gender-neutral; however, aside from it's astronomy use, it was the name of a 1970's Chevy AND it means "Does not go" in spanish. (No va!)

Oooh- I really love that for a boy or a girl.
I always like to see them before I name them, but have quite a few picked out before birth.

I like to wait untill I see them to, But I like to have a "top ten" of sorts. I was thinking of Avery, fynn,or nova. My first boys name is Forest.

I think all three names on your list are beautiful. Keep us posted if you come up with anymore.

My sons name is Noah so Nova is pretty close. I like it!

I'd really see it as a girl name. Doesn't mean it wouldn't work for a boy but I'd initially think girl if I heard it.

Of course if you are even just a little unique people will give you looks or make comments about the name you pick.

Sounds gender neutral to me too.

I've never heard that ending in an A was girtl thing. Asa, that's a boy's name. Ira, that's a boys name.

I dont know what it is with the A, It just gives a more feminin sound. Maybe it's a spanish thing??

i totally agree with this. so it depends on how 'boy named sue' you want your son's life to be. and you have to remember that a three year old might not be very effected but a seventh grader might. although i like nova. it;s just something to think about.

If I heard it, I'd think of a girl first because of the 'a'. I don't like it, but ... not my kid!

Love it, and there are a few other boy's names ending in a - Micah, Sasha come immediately to mind. Will you give a middle name as well?

And when you want to praise him he'll be super nova, awww!

I like it - I would not feel strange about naming him Nova just because it ends in "a". DD's name is really a boy's name, but it ends in "a" - I'm sure some people will mistake her for a little Russian boy (on paper anyway). But people with names like Chris, Kelly, etc also run across that sort of thing, yk?

Super nova! Very cool. I think it sounds gender-neutral, too.

Not to rain on the parade, but the pp reminded me that my dad calls the Chevy Novas "Shitty Nova"s.

So much pressure naming a baby. A name really defines a person. I love the name nova, but who knows if that will be his name. He could come out and be an avery or a harvest or hunter ....who knows!!!!

It reminds me of "Supernova" by Liz Phair. Great song, but it's about a man, definitely not a little boy!

I like it.
