See the sticky at the top of the forum. I will do my best to be there but am feeling somewhat under the weather with mastitis and beleaguered by a restless 3-year old.

I'm trying to go there, but I can't find the dang chat room. I have used this link http://mommychats.com/mothering , but still can't find it.

Found it. Log in to the main room, then under the list of chatters is a pull-down menu. Choose Mothering_Mag from that list and it'll take you there.

But maybe y'all already knew that.

Big sigh of relief! Peggy clarified that she continues to be opposed to medical circ (aka RIC routine infant circ as distinguished from religious). At first she wasn't clear how her language could have been read as supporting circ but then I pointed out the last sentence in the relevant paragraph (about trusting in both the integrity of the child's body and the parents' inherent authority to make decisions for the family), where circing parents often claim "it's right for our family," and I think she saw how that could be misread.

She said she would be happy to stop by MDC. I am hoping that will clear up any misunderstandings. I am also hoping she'll publish something to clarify the issue.

Also, in the Sept/Oct issue there's going to be a new article on circ! Something to look forward to.

Did it sound as if this was the first she was hearing about this? Does that mean she was not aware of any of the letters sent about this topic?

That's a big sigh of relief! It seems weird that it sounded like she had not heard of the controversy caused by her statements though...

I hop eshe will stop by and clarify an d once again reitorate that circ is wrong, always.

Apparently so.

AFAIK she would agree for routine infant circ but apparently she doesn't take a position on religious circ.

I guess she doesn't read our letter sto the editor then?!

That would be good enough for me. I would like to see that spelled out clearly though.

(sorry for typos, weir dkeyboard in italy!)

Did someone mention that we can see the transcripts of the chat??? I'd love to see this chat, as well as a few of the others (Dr. Fleis, Marilyn Milos). I always miss chat)-:

Also, if Peggy had meant not to offend religious circumcision, why didn't she write 'religious circumcision' instead of 'medical circumcision'.

I am MORE confused by her statement now that I have read this thread, I just don't get how she couldn't see how her statement condoned circumcision....

It is also annoying that none of the concerns were brought to her attention.

I think if you go to the Mommychats website you can read the transcripts of the chats with Fleiss and Milos. The webmaster of Mommychats is about to go into labor any minute (she's already 8 days overdue, I think I saw) so the transcript of the chat with Peggy may be delayed.

Quirky,
Thanks for posting the chat info, I'll be looking for the new chat transcript. I saw the other 2 and am happy I had a chance to. I emailed Marilyn Milos to see if there are local groups.

In the Fleiss chat he suggests going to the doctors opposing circ site to request a free copy of the Penn and Teller DVD- does anyone know if that is true?

I'm guessing he is referring to the circ video you can download from their website, but if they are giving out that dvd, I'd love to request it for a friend that is pg.

Just wondered if anyone had heard of this and tried.

Any chance her chat responses were merely trying to placate both sides? (Writing the editorial, but then "not understanding" how it could be construed as pro-circ or neutral.) They still better publish some letters to the editor about it.

I have returned this thread after removing posts discussing religious circimcision. Please refrain from discussion religious circ in this forum (per forum guidelines). Discussions of that nature may be held in the Spirituality forum.
