Are there certain vitamins I can give my baby before vax's?
Vitamin C?? How do you give it to a baby? Anything else? How do you buy it?

TIA!

Are you breastfeeding? If so, knock out sugar & artificial sweetners as much as possible from your diet at the very least a few days before the vaxes. Everything that goes into you, goes into your milk. Preservatives and all the multi-syllable-unprounceable junk added to most pre-packaged foods. It's harder for a little one's immune system to keep up when it's trying to deal with so many foreign substances at the same time.

If you're not breastfeeding, then I don't have much knowledge about what vitamins are good for babies. I do know this has been discussed before, so maybe search the threads? Don't forget some of the other forums on this board, there's great information but it sometimes gets scattered.

Either way, make sure your child isn't sick, even with the sniffles. Some peds say it's ok to vax during or right after an illness, some don't. Given that the infant immune system hasn't really been studied, it's probably a good idea to wait a week or so.

One last thing, ask for and read the package inserts. Read every bit of it. Especially if there are any instances of allergies, reactions, or autoimmune diseases in either side of your child's family. Everyone needs to do this (but sometimes even the docs themselves don't, so they won't think to offer it to you). My son was given 2 shots that contained ingrediants he had known and severe reactions to, all because I didn't even know there were package inserts available, and his doc obviously hadn't read them. Anaphylaxis is no fun.

and on THAT happy note, I hope you find the info you're looking for

I always gave my dd a bit, not the full does, of baby tylenol before we left to go get her vaxes and then I nursed her afterward in the exam room. Her doc lets you stay as long as you like. She has never had any problems.

There are risks to dosing your child with Tylenol or acetominophen before vaxing. Primarily it will mask any poor reaction that you may need to report.
I
n addition you might want to check this thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=201437
and this post on page 2 by Montezuma Tuatara.

It begins:
" To put it succinctly, without providing medical back-up (though if you pm me, with an e-mail I can flick you a word document which gives all you need) the use of tylenol in babies:

1) Should never be used for fevers. "

If you can get your hands on some homeopathic remedies at a health food store (or online...I recommend abchomeopathy.com), you can give Hypericum 30C prior to the vax and Ledum 30C after.

Make sure your doc is not using vaxes that contain thimerisol. Don't let them try to tell you it's not dangerous.

I've never vaccinated but I have heard that homeopathic "Thuja" is good for detox. I would also up Vit C (you take it if you are nursing.)

I know some people who use vaccine detox and start it days before the visit.

Read Stephanie Cave book, What your doctor doesn't tell you about vaccinations, she has some good suggestions, such as using cod liver oil and vitamin c. Also I would use vaccination detox.

We do selective vax.

For a few days before & after, I double their dose of Vitamin C (buffered w/bioflavonoids), fish oil (CLO in the winter) and yogurt. NO sugars and LOTS of sleep.
We stay away 100% from tylenol.

I, too, have heard a lot about Thuja and need to learn more.

eta: oh, how...we get the powdered C and mix it into their yogurt. Make sure it's the right kind as it has better absorption. Be wary if you haven't given ANY C before as too much gives temporary diarrhea. If Baby is too young, you could up your dose.
