Can vaxes cause speech delay?

Okay, so vaxes can cause brain damange, and brain damage can be seen in speech delay/speech problems right?

How can one ever really know if a speech delay is caused by vaxes that a baby got?

My 1st DS is fully vaxed on "schedule" (and no, I'm not doing that again!) and he is 23 months with very very few words. He understands EVERYTHING, follows diretions very well, communicates decently despite a lack of words (he has *sounds* that I "get" and signs still) ... I mean, he doesn't seem slow to develop, just slow to speak, kwim?
Does that sounds like a problem that would be a result of the vax's or does that just sound like late-end-of-the-spectrum speech development?

TIA!

Could well be caused by the vaxes. Unvaxed kids that I've known seem to be ahead of vaxed kids. That's why if I HAD to vax I would only do it after the age of 2- it is much easier to see regression at that point. When you vax a 2 month old or 4 month old you can never know what might have been.

My DS is totally unvaxed and had very few words until around 2.5, and then he had a verbal explosion and talks non stop now The kid is absolutely brilliant; he just took his time speaking.

Of course vaccines can cause problems like that, but I wouldn’t think that is the case with your child right away. Your son sounds fine as far as speech development goes, just on the late end like you said. I would be worried if he was frustrated at his lack of verbal skills and/or he had problems communicating, and from your post that doesn’t seem like it is the case.

I’d get a speech evaluation just to be sure, mostly for peace of mind (I did) and if there is a problem you can start working with him now. But I really wouldn’t worry quite yet, he’ll most likely start talking soon, on his schedule. All kids are different.

I don't think your son sounds particularly delayed. If he understands you, communicates non-verbally and seems normal in every other way then I would say he is just a late talker. Our culture is so obsessed with kids developments and faster being better we seem to forget that kids develop differently. Maybe your son is concentrating on motor skills, social development or even receptive speech instead of expressive. My brother didn't speek until very late (he was three before he really started talking) but he started with complete sentences instead of small words and baby talk. Some kids just like to know that they can do something well before attempting to do it at all.

It is true that vaxes can cause speech delays, they did in ds, but his situation was a bit different. He started speaking very early and then quit suddenly after a round of vaxes. He is just now recovering 2.5 years later.

if you are really concerned it can't hurt to speak with your Dr about a speech eval, most areas have some sort of early childhood program that do these for free. They will hopefully be able to tell you if your ds really needs anything. Though be warned that there are groups out there that will convince you that lots of things are wrong with your child just so they can provide treatment (ie get your money). That is why I recomend an eval through a trusted Pedi or through ECI.

Our ds is 23 months as well and he has only recently begun to pick up many more words. He is completely unvaxed. I agree with the others that you probably don't have anything to worry about at this point. I can see where the fear may be since he has been vaxed though. Try not to stress about it. As mentioned before, have him checked out if you really need to, but don't let them freak you out either. Sometimes speech delays are from hearing loss too. :

it sounds like your son is simply delayed in his verbal speech. No cause necessarily , just the way he is. If he understands you and can communicate effectively , I wouldn't worry about his speech. My son was almost five before he started using words on a regular basis.

However .... heavy metals can cause speech problems. Even adults that are exposed to heavy metals see a change in their speech patterns. Have you detoxed him ? I went thru a chiropractor and used homeopathy to detox my dd and saw a marked difference in her speech. It was wild. I had no more doubts about the connection after she was detoxed. But my dd wasn't understanding/communicating and it sounds like your ds is.

I think it's late end of the spectrum speech development. WAIT. You mentioned he signs ? That's awesome. Totally cool. I'm guessing since he can communicate with signs , he doesn't think he needs words. I'd reinforce words when he signs. "Thank you for signing that instead of grunting. Let's say ' I would like a drink please.' " Eventually he'll pick up on it. Sounds like you are doing a good job.

I agree with Jen. Seeing that vaccines contain nuerotoxins, I definately believe they can cause speech problems but I do not think that vaccines are the only cause of delayed speech. Some kids just take their time to do things.

When my daughter was 23 months (2 months ago) she had about 30 words and no 2 word phrases. Now, at 25 months, she has a lot more words, and several two word phrases, so I don't believe that she is technically behind anymore.

She is totally unvaccinated, which is really good, because if she had been vaccinated at all, I would have been like you and wondering if it was the vaccines, and that would have really stressed me out.

My son fully vaxed, talked very little up until over 2 then slowly started talking better by 3.

Dd fully vaxed up until 15 months, talked a little here and there but moreso after we stopped vaxing.

Dd2 unvaxed, talked in 2 word combos at 9 months old and talks like you would not believe now at almost 2. She has been having full conversations with us and talking in sentances for awhile now. I do know she talked much better much earlier than my older 2 kids. Everyone is always commenting on her speech so ??

Do I think it has to do with vaxes...? well morso in my son's case, he has mild autism that I think is vax damage related. With my girls, maybe it was because my youngest has her siblings to teach her more, maybe it's just personality and maybe it has to do with not assulting her brain with chemicals. I think it's a combo of things.

My unvaccinated grandson is only using a few words and he is two. He has great language comprehension and excellent communication skills, but is sort of cautious about talking. His dad is a speech language pathologist and didn't seem to be worried about it, although he is pleased that gs is beginning to talk.
