c-section for large baby? - Page 2

chapulina: I've never experienced shoulder dystocia, because I've never given birth. However, my doctors, my ultrasound and my gut all say I'm carrying a big baby (I do realize we could all be wrong). Dd was 10lb., 2oz. and was delivered by "elective" cesarean, after ds was an emergency. My babies weren't malpositioned - they were both breech. This baby is head down, and hell will freeze over before I ever let myself be talked/pushed into a so-called elective c-section again.

I'm kind of ranting, but I guess my point is that I'm probably carrying a big baby, and I'm also VBA2C'ing...and I don't see any reason to schedule a section. So, don't let your OB talk you into it unless you're sure it's what you want. I let that happen with dd and have regretted it for over two years.

thanks for your responses - i feel encouraged and empowered by the info. and support I am getting.

my feeling is that I could birth this baby, and unless my visit with the midwife who delivered my first baby reveals something surprising, I will plan on waiting for this little one to just start things up when she's ready.

I would LOVE for this labour to commence right about now, and then we would all have the answer. anyway, she's dropped from yesterday and all last PM at work I felt some nice, low strong pressue in my lower pelvic area, and some strong bh's every hour. so exciting!
