Spin Off...Detective birthday party

Dd, 9, wants to have a 'detective' theme for her b day party this year (Sept.).

She has been reading Nancy Drew and she and Ben like to play spy and detective games.

Does anyone have some ideas how this can translate into a birthday party with 6 or 8 kids? One idea I have so far is making disappearing ink.

That's as far as I've gotten

I find that Family Fun magazine is always a good place to start for this kind of thing.

I found these:

Thanks, Karen

We looked at Family Fun, but forgot to look at the games : That freeze tag game is perfect! Ellie loves to run and play tag. She wasn't crazy about the question mark cake...this is a kid who has had birthday parties revolving around horses and unicorns for 5 years I like the tracing game, too...that's cute and will work for the variety of ages.

What about setting up some sort of mystery for the kids to solve together. They have party kits for grown ups to solve a murder, which would be a bit much for kids party, but may be you could come up with something more age appropriate.

There are party kits for kids, too.

For a non-packaged party, this site has ideas, too:

what a fabulous idea. could you do a short play around a mystery and then get the kids to solve it? kind of role play "clue"?

Hi Joan

A detective b-day sounds like fun! Hmmmm........I like the idea for a mystery game. How about a treasure hunt kind-of game where they work together to find clues and have to solve them to find the next clue (using the disappearing ink maybe?). I'm sure this is what you're already thinking about. I'll post more ideas if I think of something.
