Names your little ones call you - Page 2

A update on our name situation I find interesting... Ds went from saying "Mim" consistently (for DP) to calling everyone he came in contact with "Mommy" when he wanted something, to calling DP "Daddy", which he's heard used at his part time daycare (in home, so he could see who Daddy referred to - incidentally a man with similar physical characteristics to DP, short dark hair, similar height and build) and now he's taken to calling her "Nani" which I think is his version of Honey, which I often use when calling for DP through the house. Whatever DS decides on permanently is fine with us.

thanks for sharing this, such a cute story! Glad you are fine with him calling your DP whatever he wants to!

She calls me Mama or Mommy and DP is Ima (pronounced E-ma Hebrew for mom). At first she wasn't able to make the E sound so she called DP Ama, which was cute too. When she was finally able to say E we asked her if she wanted DP to be Ima or Ama and she said "Ima" and so DP has been Ima ever since!

When I first posted, ds was not verbalizing much. He is now almost 2(!), and refers to both myself and dp as "mama". However, when we refer to each other as Mama and Mommy, he still recognizes which one of us we are referring to. Also, if he says, "Mama!", and the wrong one of us responds, he will say, "No, that Mama"! He's too funny...
Also, if re: to what somone else said, ds has also started referring to other people as "mama." I'm glad someone else's child is doing that as well - we thought it was pretty funny.

We adopted our children. I refer to myself as mommy, DP is mama, but I will often call her "mama chula" or just "chula" (chula means beautiful in spanish). Our oldest daughter (19 mo.) calls us "mom" or "ma" or "mama" and we both answer to it. LOL!! I'm sure as she gets older it will get more defined. She's going through a phase where everything and everybody is "ma"...even grandma and my SIL and BIL. Our ped said that it's a normal phase of development and don't get hurt if she calls a complete stranger "ma".

I usually refer to DP as mama chula though because I think it's sweet.
