OMG if you wanna see a scary movie go see THE RING!
I have never been so scared in my life by a movie. Truly truly one of the best movies I have ever seen. Only because it completely warped my mind, I got so into the movie!
Like a lot of scary movies, it disturbed me more afterwards than while I was watching it, although I found it disturbing and scary while watching it too.

I didn't really think that it was scary, but I definitely liked the story. I've recommended it to all of my friends.

I don't know, I thought that the "Blair Witch Project" was much more terrifying (took me weeks to recover from that) but that's probably because I spend a lot of time in the woods so my imagination really went into overtime.

I would really like to see the original version so if anyone knows how to get ahold of a copy that would be great!!

Are you talking about the original BWP or the Ring?

Okay maybe it wasn't scary scary it was more thrilling! The anticipation feeling about whats going to pop up next is the best!
But I was still scared!

And for sure it was a disturbing story!

I'm talking about the original version of "The Ring". I think that in another post someone knew the name of it but I didn't know if it was something that could be special ordered. Even if it is in Japanese I would still like to see the effects.

Definitely the anticipation was great! I thought that I was going to throw up when they showed the girl after she'd died--yuck!!!

I saw it with 14 yo dd who is all grown up and not scared of things anymore? I had my coat over my eyes for at least half of it. I was traumatized until I got home and started doing normal things, like dishes, real quick to get over it.

It was fun!

I just saw it!

I just saw The Ring. It was VERY creepy. The part with Samara in the well with Rachel was sad. Anything that has to do with child abuse of any kind creeps me out.

Hope everyone had a filling Thanksgiving.

Questions...

Very creepy indeed, BUT a lot of things about this movie I just didn't get at all. They could have done more to explain things and get a bit more indepth.

Warning! Don't read this if you don't want a spoiler.

Like:

In 1978 they had VHS tapes? (ie. the video record in the hospital) Umm I don't really think so, might be wrong. They certainly weren't very popular forms of media at that time.

Who made this tape? Was it supernaturally created?

Samara is free? So now what? That really change anything? What was all that work to unravel the mystery for then?

What was Samara's father freaking out about exactly and at that time what did he really care after all that time?

How did the kids in the car die? They certainly didn't have a TV or phone in their car I would assume, but then again maybe they had one of those fancy minivans with a TV/VCR

What was the deal with the fly? Just another creepy aspect?

How was she so sure making a copy was the answer?

The friend of the neice sort of looking like Samara was just a coincidence?

Being that it was based on a Japanese story I can see why it probably wouldn't make total, logical sense. It certainly did its job in disturbing me; I was pretty freaked out for a long time after I watched it.

Hmm beats me!

It was supernaturally created by Samara. Remember they couldnt find any source in the tracking.

Just another thingf to thrill you....you think oh what a happening ending, the girl gets buried, then the parent get back together and the boy gets his dream and then!!! its not over!! I really like that part!

He was freaking out cause he couldnt escape her. He was having hallucinations all those years

I would think she came to them in someway and when they freaked they crashed....your guess is as good as mine!

there were maggots all over her when she was deteriorating in the well.....remember the maggots in her eye socket. It was creepy when she was able to pick it up though. But you know I never understood the nails breaking part???

Cause she asked herself why did she not die and he did......at that point she was in her living room where she had thrown that tape under the couch and DING it came to her. So if you figure it this way, the little girl wants everyone to know her story. She wants everyone to live through what she lived through and the only way is to force people to make copies or they DIE!

of course!

OKay but here are my questions:

where did the girl come from in the first place. They never say BUT why was she the way she was...evil I mean?

How did the boy know about Samara before he saw the video. I know he was close to his cousin who died in the beginning but still I didnt get that part.

And why were they on the inland when she was thrown down the well. Why was the mom with her when she was in that mental institution that whole time. She got out just to kill her and then kill herself???? And if that was the case and the horses were up on that hill.....how did they drown so after Samara died????

Thanks Kaya's Mama

Was thinking a bit more about this yesterday after I posted:

What were those strange pictures in the file that the doctor asks Samara how she made? Some sort of film with pictures too? Sort of implying they were made like the Video tape?

Do you mean the finger nails breaking off from trying to climb out of the well? Or the metal nails?

I was sort of thinking that when they "went away and come back with Samara" maybe they didn't something sort of messed up to get this girl. Where did they go? Didn't that doctor say she was told the girl's mother died in child birth? Maybe they killed the mother or something? She was not her biological mother, right? Or was she? Didn't the file say the woman had 66 conceptions and 65 miscarriages?

I wasn't clear on whether the horses were dying before or after Samara was dead. or both.

I was wondering about the other things you were questioning, also. I'd love to know those answers, too.

Perhaps I need to read the novel or watch the other movie versions of the story.

The Morgans adopted her but I remember the doctor said no one knew where they went to get her...they came back one winter with her. And she did say the girls mother died during childbirth. BUT now I dont remember picking up on the # of miscarriages/conception.....are you sure about it. Cause now I am even more confused! Technically the Morgans very well could be her biological parents and they just never told the townspeople????Hmmmmmmm

Those pictures in her file were the pictures she was drawing before the whole story went down. Apparently she was drawing these pictures but not at will. Kinda like forced on her like the boy and his mom and his cousin. I remember one clearly, It was a rocking horse on ocean waves......a guess a foretelling of whats to come?!

Okay now I get the fingernails part. Now I gotta wonder about those nails popping up when they were at the well!?

I thought the horses died before she did, and that they were at another place that just happened to have horses, but my memory is a sieve. I do remember talking about that scene where they are at this place with a deep well where there just happen to be horses--my husband thought that they were the family's horses, but I just thought they were there because it was out in a field.

The nail thing bothered me because it showed how she tried to climb out of the well and it was when I first realized she was actually alive.

I didn't even notice that the friend resembled Samara.

I don't think it was specified as to whether she was adopted or conceived. I do remember that the father said that his wife was never supposed to have children, and there was something in the medical records about her having a lot of miscarriages. At the Internet Movie Database message boards, some viewers were suggesting that they made some sort of pact with the devil in order to have a child. I thought perhaps they stole a child from someone else.

What I didn't get was how when Rachel went into the Morgan's house, and Richard started acting like he was actually going to kill her or something. He asked her something about the tape and she said that she had made a copy. He seemed to relax at that point, which I didn't quite get. Perhaps he was knew that to make a copy was the key, and he was afraid of what would happen if Samara came after Rachel.

I didn't realize the tape was made in 1978, but now I don't remember the dates. There was stuff in the newspapers from around that time about the horses dying, and an earlier story about the rider being injured when the horse balked and threw him, but Samara was only an infant at the time of the accident. So I was thinking that the tape was made either when she was older, or actually when she was already dead, since her spirit was still there and could burn the images. But the footage of her in the asylum, when would that have been taken? I don't know. Was it video or film? I don't remember now.

A review at the IMDb site had someone postulating that Aiden was a reincarnation of Samara, so the "copy" that Rachel made was Aiden, not the tape. I don't know about that.

It was to show that things could actually manifest on the other side of the screen from the videotape, and foreshadowing that Samara would do the same thing.

I thought that the horses died while Samara was still alive. Wasn't there something mentioned about how the horses kept her awake at night because she was forced to sleep out in the barn and she was angry at them?

I also kind of thought that the Morgan's had made some sort of unnatural deal to get Samara and that she probably was their biological daughter. Kind of like the Jim Henson's Storyteller "Hands my Hedgehog" when the mom says something about she didn't care what she got as long as she had a child to love even if it was as ugly as a hedgehog. I felt that when the dad said she was never meant to have children that there was regret and fear in his voice that they had really messed with something totally unnatural and not meant to be.

Why did the horse commit suicide on the ferry? Was it because Samara's presence was with the reporter???

One of the websites listed earlier mentioned that one of the movies gets into the story of Samara growing up a little bit more, I'd love to see it but don't know where it's availible.

I am almost positive I read the medical record saying

66 conceptions

65 miscarriages

After thinking about this a bit I am beginning to believe that the Morgans did do something unnatural to get Samara "she wasn't meant to have children". Perhaps a pact with the devil or something similar.

I wish they had gone into a lot more detail, such as what exactly Samara did that totured her mother so much that they had to keep her in the barn. I guess she killed the horses because they kept her awake at night.

This movie could have been really great if it didn't have so many plot holes/unanswered questions. It was almost as if important scenes were missing/cut from the film.

I just found out today that they released the original Japanese movie "Ringu" with English subtitles--I can't wait to see it and see how it compares.
