Help! Favorite Postpartum and Breast Pads?

I am so confused : ...I am trying to figure out:

1. Which Postpartum Pads and Breast Pads to buy?
2. How many do I need? Do I need only pads for heavy flow or should I get some for lighter flow too?

Our first baby is due to arrive in just 3 weeks so I will need to find something that is In Stock, just in case the baby comes early.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

are you wanting to purchase disposable pads or washable?

Washable pads I would look for some WAHM ones, I have a few and I liked them, but darn if I remember where I got them. For disposable, I like the Lansinoh ones the best personally.

Honestly its hard to tell how many you need it depends on how much you leak. For the first month or two I generally have to wear them all the time if I don't want to have wet spots on my shirt, then it tapers off. However I don't always bother if I'm at home.

lunabeans, I am still waiting to go into labor with my first, so take this with the appropriate pound of salt - on another board I am on, women rave about "soothies" breast pads to relieve soreness. Apparentally you can find them at some drugstores. Best of luck to you!

for me, washable breast pads didn't work. i leaked too much at the beginning, pretty much 24/7, and now when my milk "comes in" when ian is nursing a washable pad won't hold enough.

i am a washable pad kinda girl, but i bought disposable breast pads. lansinoh have been my favorite so far.

for postpartum pads, i used what the hospital gave me at first, and then bought one package of disposables for the few weeks after that i was bleeding very heavily. after that, i switched to my normal cloth pads. but, i had a lot of stitches that had to stay as dry and clean as possible, and *for me* disposables worked best at the beginning.

for cloth pads i use lunapads and glad rags.

but, i'm sure there are lots of mamas on here that can steer you elsewhere!

good luck to you.....

medela are my fave washable breast pad, but lansinoh aren't bad (gerber are a joke, I threw them out).

I use a cloth and a disposable bp at night, cloth against my skin, paper outside so no leaks. I change them every feed b/c they get soaked.

Of the disposable bps, medela edges out lansinoh for smooth fit. Avent is driest and most comfy, but is a big thick disk - not discreet at all! First years lanolin treated are greasy and itchy, but fit well.

No, I'm not obsessed, why do you ask?

For th bleeding, I used a stash the nurse gave me for the first week, normal pads the next week, and panty liners for the five weeks after that.

HTH!

Lansinoh gets my vote for disposable breast pads!

Breast pads:
I used bravado pads for out and about (sometimes I needed 2 on each side) and prefolds at home (I was a major leaker). For me cloth breast pads were *much* more comfortable than sposies. Of the sposies I tried I liked Avent the best. You definitely want to stay far, far away from any sposie pads that have plastic in them. I am thinking about making some wool breast pads for this time. Need to track down instructions!
