Good magazine for a 4 year old

I want to get my good friend's daughter a magazine subscription to a good magazine. She loves to read and is pretty advanced for her age. She isn't reading yet but I am sure she will be soon. What do you recommend? Zoobooks, Ranger Rick, Ladybug or Click magazine? Thanks!

Well, it depends on her interests. My dd loves stories and so Ladybug is still one of her favorites (even though she's technically out of the age range and should move to Spider, she doesn't want to give up Ladybug )

Click is a cute magazine, but my dd doesn't like to read non-fiction so much, so she didn't like it. We don't get Ranger Rick and Zoobooks but I think they are both about animals. So yeah, you have to know the child and what she likes.

My kids both loved Click at that age. It has a totally different topic every month. It is meant for the parent to read it to the child.

My kids really like Zoobooks now, but they wouldn't have enjoyed it at 4.

My kids liked Ladybug at that age, although I think they would've liked Ranger Rick too.

My dd loved Ladybug at age 4. National Geographic for Kids has a lot of advertising. My ds likes Highlights

Dd loves Your Big Backyard (published by the Ranger Rick folks). She does get Zoobooks, but doesn't get as much out of them yet. We get Ladybug too, and she's starting to enjoy it more, but Your Big Backyard has been the clear fav for a while.

Our library carries all of these magazine and lets us check out back issues. If yours does, you could browse them there. My 4 year old loves the grown-up Natural History and Zoobooks. Her interests tend toward the natural world and science. She also enjoys parts of Highlights. We give mags as Christmas presents to our nieces and nephews based on their interests....Sports Illustrated for Kids is a huge hit, as well Big Backyard and Click/Muse.

Thank you all so much! You advice really helps! I am leaning towards Ladybug but I am going to go check out Your Big Backyard.

I agree with the idea of checking them out at the library first and seeing which one your child likes best. We had a subscription to, "My Big Back Yard" and while I thought it was very well done, it wasn't interesting to either of the kids. I vote for browsing.

I also was a huge NG lover, since I have years worth of World Magazine upstairs in my attic from the 80s. But I've also heard, as a PP said, that it's lots and lots of mainstream advertising and not like the original NG World.
