Anyone else have there C/S wound heal open from infection??

My incision was infected with my last c/s due to a uterine infection(and the incision not being cleaned before closing it up). Which was caused by the hospital feeling a need to constantly check my cervix after my water was broken.
Anyways....the result of the infection was that the wound could not be closed. Instead it had to stay open and be literally packed with gauze untill it healed from the inside out( 3 1/2 months later). OK..so this is getting long..the point is, my belly is very deformed looking becuase of this. I was just wondering if anyone else in the world had experianced this?? And if so, if they to had a funky lookin belly??

If you are having a repeat csection they can fix things up for you to some degree. Be sure to talk to your Ob about it before hand, and even consider seeing a plastic surgeon -- your insurance may pay for some repair.

I have insurance through the state...so I can almost say for sure that they would not pay for a plastic surgeon. And I don't need to be perfectly repaired, but it would be nice to have it look a little nicer than it does. My ob has already taken a look and said something like she would cut an oval shape to connect it better. But, I think I'm going to go over it again with her..for my sake.

You might try to find other people who have had open wounds like that and see how they healed in the long run. Not necessarily c/s moms either. There are a surprising number of people out there who have had wonds that had to heal open like that. One of my cousins was in a car wreck and they packed one of his wounds like that. It was nasty for a while and now he has a nifty scar and an indentation. He never went back to a plastic surgeon or anything to have it fixed, though he probably could have. I'd definately talk to your OB and see what she can do. She might not be a plastic surgeoun, but she can surely close a wound Maybe she could even speak to a plastic surgeon and see if they could give her any tips. Best wishes!
