Hi, not sure if this belongs here, but since it deals with a positive bf education experience, I'll put it here
We just returned from visiting relatives out of state, and for two of the nights we stayed at my brother's house back in the sticks. His two stepgrandchildren ages 6 and 9 and my dd's played together about every minute of that time. This was our first time meeting them since my brother just got married July 3rd
All of the girls and I were in the guestroom playing games and coloring, when my 21month old needed to nurse. Normally, playing and activities distract her from nursing, but she was really hungry
I said to the girls, "Oh, gotta feed dd" and proceeded to lay on my side and dd snuggled in. The oldest girl yelped "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!". I said, "Feeding the baby", then at her confused, horrified look, "Breasfeeding", calmly and naturally even though I could tell she was freaked, LOL! :LOL Her face went completely neutral and she said "Oh" as in "Oh, of course, I knew that", looking so adult. Then, She Took Off Like A Shot out of the room! :LOL
I knew what she was doing. I talked to my brother's wife about it a little later. She said Kayla had come out and whispered "Is breastfeeding dirty?" Which is very sad for that to even occur to her. However, it was a great moment. Her grandma told her no, it was a great word and they talked a bit more. She had never seen anyone breasfeed. It's apparently all about the formula in that particular area, so I feel like I just gave two little girls a lasting, positive experience with breastfeeding, extended bf at that
I thought the whole incident was so totally cute. As the girls witnessed us bf the next few days, it became totally normal for them too. I hope they remember one day
