nice smelling laundry?

I use very little detergent (don't need a lot) and prefer not to use regular dryer sheets, but I'd love for my clean clothes to have a nice scent. Any suggestions? I've tried a little EO on a towel in the dryer, but I never notice any nice smell after. Do I need to use more? Any other ideas, products, etc?

: I'm addicted to that new downy "simple pleasures" chock full of yucky stuff, but it smells so good.... I'm interested to see what others tell you... OT: I lit my oil warmer full of the lemongrass oil tonight for the first time & it smelled so nice. Thanks again for an awesome swap!

My clothes smell the best when they're hung to dry. Personally, I don't mind them not smelling all fragrancy, as long as they don't smell BAD. Which has happened a couple times, because we have to use the crappy apartment washers. :P

I use Ecover fabric softener. The sent is light but pleasing. It doesnt knock you out like downey does. Mrs. Meyers clean day also has a fabric softener but I haven't tried it. I have also noticed another brand at Wild Oats but I can't remember the name.

I second the fresh sent of hanging outside.

If you are hanging your clothes out to dry then put 10 or so drops of essential oil in with the detergent..or water. If you dry your clothing put several drops on a dryer sheet or tissue in with the clothing. I recommend ylang-ylang or lavender.

Trader Joe's has little lavender sachets just for this purpose. Unfortunately, you only get a really strong scent on the first load.
