My laundry room is close to the kitchen and I hang wet stuff over the tub and I have hooks near the sink. I would suggest you put some hooks in your kitchen to hang them up to dry. Maybe you could put some right near the stairs. You could put them under the sink if you have the room. If you get the towels with loops on them or sew some on the ones you have you can fit quite a few on a hook. I find my stuff dries over night. If I put them in a bucket or a pile in the laundry sink they end up moldy. I think it's all the food bits..yuck! The only thing I can think of to kill the mold is nasty bleach.
