Yay for Swedish Hospital...maybe

So I was never offered the "free diaper bag" when I was at Swedish. DH and I were talking about this. You know the great diaper bag from the formula companies.

I am not sure if they have them and just did not offer me one because I am breastfeeding. Or they knew how adimant I was about bfing. I did mention that I nursed DD who is two all through my pregnancy and was not interested in weaning her.

Anyway I was pleased to not have gotten one either way.

That's awesome! I am soooo peeved at hospitals that give formula samples to new BFing moms, "just in case". Formula companies are evil. :

It's always good to hear about a hospital that hasn't totally sold out.

With DS I got a bag from one of the formula companies labelled something like "breastfeeding success" kit. Of course it had a can of formula. While I was hemming and hawing about where to donate it so I wasn't wasting food, but at the same time not promoting artificial feeding, it went past the expiration date. The breastfeeding success kit did include some little gel ice packs that have come in handy though

Maybe they actually enforce the WHO code in Sweden.

I'm pretty sure she's in America and the hospital's name is Swedish. LOL!

Good for them! Maybe they're trying to get certified as baby-friendly? I think no formula samples is one of the requirements?

Oh yes the hospital is in Seattle, WA Swedish is just the name of the hospital.

Although living in Sweden doesn't sound too bad sometimes.

I am glad to say the community hospital where I work PRN attempted to get "baby friendly" but could not afford to pay the money inolved for the logo. In the process they changed their diaper bags to these cute smallish (perfect for a short trip out) cloth bags with a generic design and the hospital initials--I use this one most often. In my opinion they are pretty good at supporting breastfeeding, in part due to the LC on staff, and all the nursing staff of LD/motherbaby and NICU have to take classes on breastfeeding every year. I had to scold my pediatricians office for offering me a formula diaper bag.

The other place I work full time is not so great. They have a larger population of newborns and infants with still only one LC!

That's great! I birthed at Evergreen (same area) and they are a "baby friendly" hospital. The only time I ever heard "formula" mentioned was by my LC who told me to NOT let my ped talk me into formula b/c of ds's juandice! I wish every hospital was this way!
