New Mom needs help!

My friend wrote to me that she is having trouble with her 3 week old DD. I havent really had much trouble BF my son and don't know what to tell her. She's very comitted but seems to keep getting bad advice from agressive & just plain MEAN lac. consultants! Can anyone help out? Here's what she wrote! Thanks ladys!

"Now they think she has colic or that she might be
lactose intolerant because she squirms a lot &
sometimes cries while feeding. I want to pull my hair
out but I'm trying to be patient.
My nipples are sensitive but it's actually my breast
that are sore. My OB said my bra wasn't giving me
enough support & that the connective tissues were
separating. I don't know, it just seems like there's
something else going on. I am getting discouraged."

She has already gone through mastasitis (sp?) and has been a trooper, but her DD doesent seem to be able to draw milk out or wont. Her DD is not tounge tied either, I asked. The Mommy does drink alot of milk herself she said though, but allergy seemed unlikely...
anyway!

Thanks again. Hope I provided enough info for ideas!

I can't help too much either, but as she's having bad luck with the LC's does she have a local LLL group or leader? Even if there's not one close she can get phone help. check www.lalecheleague.org if you're not sure. Good luck!

Yeah, we do have a LLL meeting in our area, I havent been yet and want too. I'll maybe invite her and we can go together.

Good Idea...!

We had trouble getting started breastfeeding... it hurt, my son was impatient, and he was supposedly "colicky" From all the advise I got and read, the right form (latch and position) can make a lot of difference. Also, I have found recently that if I don't get enough sleep or good nutrition that my milk supply decreases. All I can suggest is that she keeps trying, takes care of herself, and contacts a la leche league person or group. There are also many good books... la leche league also has published some good books... the womanly art of breastfeeding. THe only other thing I can think of is to express milk and either bottle feed the babe or use one of those syringes with a long skinny hose on the end to insert into the babes mouth while nursing. Maybe someone could explain it better than that. Also, if the babe is famished at feeding time try nursing her more frequently... she's more likely to get frustrated if that's the case. Also, it's good to nurse in a relaxing environment for hte mom... sometimes hte let down reflex won't happen if she's tense.

I don't know if that will help, but they are things that worked for us. Good luck!

I had the same problem with dd, she would arch her back, squirm and pull up her legs during feedings. I tried eliminating things from my diet and as soon as the dairy was gone, she was fine. I cut dairy out for about 6 weeks and slowly introduced it back into my diet. It worked for me, so...
