Sewing Aplix to PUL ?

I was curious to see others opinions on this.

I've tried two ways of sewing the Aplix on PUL, both using a wide zigzag stitch. I've either sewn both points of the zigzag on the Aplix, or sewn one side on, one side just barely off the Aplix. After using the covers for a while, I noticed that the ones with the zag off the Aplix seem to have bigger holes in the PUL, though I haven't noticed any wicking. I was thinking that from now on, I'll do both points on the Aplix.

Have you ever had any problems with either way? Are there any advantages with either method that you know of?

Is that Aplix applied to a single layer of PUL with nothing else?

I made pockets over a year ago and applied Aplix with the zag just off the edge of the Aplix. It had a layer of fleece as a "facing" also (just to cover the Aplix area; this was in addition to the fleece inner layer of the pocket dipe), but I have heard of people using two layers of PUL also. I have not had any holes at all. They are used approx 2x/week each.

When sewing Aplix on PUL I always put another piece of PUL behind...laminated sides together. I use a glue stick to keep the backing in place as I sew the Aplix down, it works pretty good for me. I use a wide zig-zag also, one point on, one point barely off. I also only use nylon monofilament thread when sewing Aplix, it doesn't fray in the hooks and it almost disappears against the Aplix.

Do you adjust your tension or have any other special technique with that nylon thread? I have not used it in my machine before. But I don't like the way the polyester thread sometimes splits. Last time I used a new needle and somehow got away with the needle and thread acting like they do in my dreams (no splitting, breaking, skipping stitches, etc). I don't know if it will repeat next time, so this nylon thread is an interesting thing to tuck away...

I cross my fingers and hope it doesn't break! :LOL Is that considered a technique? Every time I think I've found a good tension setting it breaks on me. I generally stay in the 0-2 tension and sew relatively slow. It also depends on what thickness of nylon thread you get. The first spool I got was thicker and never broke and never skipped stitches, it felt like thin fishing line. It was more visable on the finished project but easier to work with. This spool I have now is ultra thin and breaks a little more easily but is practically invisable on the dipe. Even with the nylon thread breaking I feel like it works better for sewing on Aplix than regular poly thread. I've found it also has held up better on my diapers than the poly thread.
