EPI-NO is a revolutionary new birth and pelvic floor trainer designed to gently train the perineum for the physical strain of delivery. Clinically tested and suitable for use from the 37th week of pregnancy, the EPI-NO trainer helps to reduce the risk of perineal tearing and episiotomy during childbirth. EPI-NO also works to maintain the long term health of women of all ages as it helps to restore pelvic floor strength which can prevent and treat incontinence and restore sexual health.
You don't need to prepare your breasts for breastfeeding ahead of time. Why would you need to train your pelvic floor for having a baby?

I definately don't see the need for this- Kegel, Kegel, Kegel! I didn't tear at all and my midwife told me my pelvic floor muscles were back to a 9 on scale of 1-10 only 6 weeks after having ds- I am a big believer in Kegels! and they are free!

HOly cow!! Did you check out the price!? $$$$$!!! If you really feelthe need to do something, you can do perineal massage prenatally. It's free too. Sex is even more effective, also free AND fun
Oh hey, look on thebright side though: At least they are trying to prevent episiotomies, evenif they are bilking women out of their money to do so

I think this is so unnecessary. Perhaps it would help if you needed to regain muscle strength after the birth.

There is one school of thought that says that lax pelvic floor muscles make a birth easier. Easier for the cervix to open, etc.

Ahem, the Epi-NO has been available for some time in Europe now. From what I know it's NOT for the pelvic floor, it's for the perineum. And that to me makes sense.

It's basically a way to do perineal massage prenatally, easily without a partner. Not all of us have access to free sex at term ... at least not without breaking the marriage vows.

I don't feel bilked. I wanted to stretch my scar tissue from the birthrape, for reasons probably more ritualistic and psychological than physiological.

i can see it being kind of fun to test out all the Kegels you've been doing ... see if you can max out the gauge :LOL

awareness of your pelvic floor and kegels are way to prevent tearing and to have better sex and help to prevent some prolapse, reduce the risk of varicosities, improve ,reduce and sometimes get rid of incontinence.

mayn people have good tone even if they don't consiously work at it - the same with most parts of the body- you will see some people who have somewhat toned bodies and they don't work out either but a bigger number of people need to move or do something to have muscle tone.
this device is just one way to exercise the muscles and improve tone
