Ae there any filters that do take the flouride out of the water???

I have been using the Brita filter, but I need a filter that takes out flouride...

My parents used a Puro-filter on their kitchen sink, and my sister, the member of the ADA uses a reverse osmosis filter.

I want no flouride.

We have switched from flouride to no flouride. I answered the poll with no flouride at all, because that's what we are doing now. Our water system has flouride in it, but I buy filtered water, which I'm not sure if the flouride has been filtered out (I hope so!).

I started brushing my son's teeth with kid's flouride toothpaste, and I made the switch over to non-flouride tooth paste a few years back (he's 7 now). I still brush his teeth once per day before bed. Rarely do I let him brush his own teeth. The dentist keeps encouraging him and me to get him to brush his own teeth, and then later they advise me that kids actually don't have the dexterity to do it themselves until they are 8! duh! He has been flouridated at the dentist twice, but I'm not going to do it anymore.

We try to eat healthy, and don't have a restricted diet.

He has no decay.

The more I read about flouride the more I don't like it. Flouride is poison. Where's the logic in "a little bit of poison is okay"?

Want to add that I never had a cavity until I was 25 and my Father was violently anti-fluoride...

My DH was older thatn all of those commercial fluoride toothpastes and treatments and he had good teeth all his life...one cavity in 64 years.

We did not use fluoride and it worked for us.

My children received fluoride treatments and they had a few cavities ... I told the dentist to lay off the fluoride treatments since they did not do my children any good...

Fluoride is really a deadly poison which causes mottling and kidney/organ damage.

Alternative to ingested flouride

I too have concerns about my boys ingesting flouride because simply stated, it is a poison. But on the other side, it definately does help their teeth. I have never given my boys the prescribed flouride supplement my doctor pushes on us with each visit. At the last dentist visit, he explained that the teeth need only to be bathed in the flouride to receive the benefits, so we use Act mouthwash that the boys can swish in their mouth, then spit out. It works the same as the supplements without any of the poison concerns. Just be sure the kids never swallow it!!

I answered that we have a small amount of tooth decay, but that is my husband and I, not the kids. No cavities for the kiddos. Not a one!

Voted: flouride toothpaste and at dentist, but not water or supplements
vegan with somewhat limited sugar

My teeth and dds are crap! I grew up with floridated water and just got 4 more (composite) fillings last week :
DD got crappy tooth genes and brushes and flosses and rinses with flouride mouthwash and still gets cavities!

I am very curious as to the results. I think heredity has a lot to do with it.

No flouride products--no flouride in the water

I had 4 cavities when I was a kid and we had the flouride treatments and used the flouride toothpaste (Yes, I have mercury in my mouth! )

and my son is fine.

Wall Street Journal Article on Flouride

The Wall Street Journal recently published an excellent article on Flouride, within the last four or five weeks. The conclusion was generally that the studies were skewed and if you look at the data, there is in an increased risk of certain cancer among children (I think they said boys) who drink flouridated water. I know you can find the article at wsj.com by searching recent articles for the word flouride, but I don't have the date or cite.

I have horrible teeth. So does my dad and most of his family. My sister has horrible teeth. We all grew up on well water. My sister and I now have city water. My step mom has horrible teeth. She grew up on city water. My two step brothers have great teeth. I think they got their dad's teeth. They grew up on well water. Go figure. I think a lot more of it is genetic than flouride related. We all ate pretty wholesome foods at home, then when us kids moved away we pretty much turned to junk... For the record I don't think any of our teeth have changed for the worse for eating yuckier foods.

my husband has heaps of cavities, yet he used flouride toothpaste and drank flouridated water. my 2 daughters have never had flouride, but have no cavities. they don't drink fruit juice. they drink water. they have sweets about twice a week.

i just received the following in my e-mail;

Quote:
Over 7,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) employees have called on Congress to pass a moratorium on the use of fluoride in drinking water, citing a series of new studies directly connecting the chemical to cancer. The group, made up predominantly of EPA scientists, has sent letters to key Congressional committees and the EPA Secretary, calling for the EPA to classify fluoride as a human carcinogen. At this point, it appears the National Academy of Sciences is being instructed to review relevant studies and report to Congress and the EPA on the topic in early 2006. The OCA will be calling on its supporters to take action when that report is released.
