telling siblings about new baby

Thread Starter
We plan to tell our 3-year-old about the pregnancy this week after an ultrasound if we see the heartbeat. I want to help her feel good about a new sibling, and not to stress until the baby comes, wondering what will happen to her. Have any of you told your other child/ren about your current pregnancy yet? Any advice on how to do it? I have seen some book recommendations on the Pregnancy board, but am looking for specific ideas on the conversation itself. (Can you tell I'm a little worried?)

warmly,

GREETINGS,
I have not told my children yet of the baby.. Mostly due to my situation right now, the stress and whatnots... gonna wait a few more weeks.

Coolest story ever though...

Yesterday seen the kids.. they were about to leave and giving hugs and goodbyes.
My 8 yr old puts his arms around my waist and hugs me... pulls his head back and says...

"Mommy, is there a baby in your tummy?"
"Why would you say that "E"?"
"Cause when I just gave you a hug it felt like there is a baby in your tummy"
... I didnt answer his question, but rushed him off to leave...lol

I already told him.... two hours after I tested. It helped that at least four of his friends' mothers are pregnant right now.

I didn't want to do a big production about it but just lodge it in his consciousness. However, he has been thinking about it. The first night before bed he came up with some theories:

Quote:
It will pull his hair and thus he does not want it.

My stomach will grow so big that it will break down the wall of our house and reach out to Sears.

There are two boys.

There is one girl.

The girl should be his friend E. And Q.

He now has Baba growing in his tummy.

He and "it" will go skiing some day... but first "it" will need some tiny snow boots. Baba, however, will not want to go skiiling because he'll be using the snowblower (recently purchased at a garage sale).

"It" is going to chase him around the house.

Upon further reflection, he'd rather not have a "mei mei" or "di di."

I told my kids as soon as the test come up positive. But we've been talking about having more babies thier whole lives. It hasn't seemed to phase them one way or the other, but I am worried that my youngest is going to have a hard time when the baby comes. I think I could handle anything but going back to diapers, although I am prepared for it since it seems to be his reaction to stress.

A few months after I started dating my boyfirend, my oldest asked if he was going to marry me so we could have more babies.

My 3 year old heard me telling me best friend on the phone. He asked me a few days later "are you pg?" I asked him who told him that, and he said he heard me tell Jessi, and that pg meant I was having a baby. I really wanted to wait for a few months too- it's hard to explain to him that the baby is not going to be here for almost a year.

He said he didn't want to share his Papa (Gpa), then forgot about it for a few days.

My kids know. They overheard dh telling his parents when I was about 5 weeks along. I'm not sure my dd, who is just 3, really understands. The boys are excited though :-)
