What do your usernames mean?

Hi there

I've been compiling the list of due dates, and some of your usernames are really intriguing. Where did they come from, and how do you pronounce them? Some of the ones that keep sticking in my head are swandira, nepenthesea, elinofa, etoilech....but then the rest of everyone's chosen usernames are curious, too. Are they from children, hobbies, nicknames? Mrs. Dimples, your name is just adorable! I smile every time I see it!

Mine's no big deal. The week I signed up for Mothering I planted a big red oak tree and I was obsessed with watering it. Plus I love the whole "strength" feeling of oaks, and I was trying to draw inspiration.

Where do your names come from, and (especially if you're nepenthesea, elinofa, or etoilech), how do you pronounce them?

Mine is boring - I live in California, and I have four kids!

Not so creative here...My husband went to Virginia Tech, their sports teams are known as "The Hokies." He is a HUGE football fan, and from the very start he referred to our little girl as his "Little Hokie." So, I am "Hokie Mum."

I wonder about some of these usernames, too!

Mine is Nepenthe Sea. Nepenthe (nuh-pen-the) = the potion Circe gave Odysseus and his crew to make them forget their homesickness; a remedy for grief

So, Nepenthe Sea = Sea of oblivion, or something like that . When I used to write poetry, I wrote of "drowning in a nepenthe sea". Later on, when trying to find original names for e-mail addresses, usernames, etc., the name came to me.

My username is an anagram of "I Am A Bunny," which is an old Richard Scarry book (before he did the Busytown stuff). The story behind that is that one day in my last marriage, I was reading to my then husband from a collection of children's books, and I read the entire Bunny story in this silly voice. He thought the voice was absolutely hilarious and made me "do the bunny voice" for friends, family, etc. Everyone else though it was way cute too. So it stuck. Now I am "the bunny." My license plate is IMABNNY.

I chose the username when I joined the National Puzzler's League, an organization which does crossword, logic and other word puzzles. It is traditional in the NPL to choose a "nom de plume," so I played with "I am a bunny" until I came up with something that sounded like a name.

It is a useful, unique handle. =) I am the only nubianamy on the Internet. Plus I get to enjoy funny references to Kevin Smith films. (Bonus points to anyone who gets that one!)

Mine's not interesting, and is very predictable.
I'm generally happy, and....I'm Leigh.
Actually Leigh is my middle name, but I have too unusual a first name to use on the Internet. I wouldn't like anyone to be able to search for my first name and automatically pull up personal posts about CM, DH, and BDing that were obviously all about me!

Mine is the least creative of all. It's my first name and the first two letters of my last. It's what they used to call me at work before I left to be a SAHM.

Thanks for asking. Mine is actually kinda boring. Etoile = star in French (the first french word I could think of when "Olivia" was already taken as a sign in name many years ago, when I wanted my 1st email addy), it's just stuck now and I use it online. It's pretty. The "ch" part comes from me living in Switzerland (or Confederation Helvetica -CH) so. There we go.

I have an unusual first name (spelling) and an unusual last name. I get *a lot* of incriminating stuff when I Google myself. =) I just gave up trying to hide after a while. Anyone who doesn't want to hire me because of any of that stuff can just go hang.

Hi, All-

I'm new in this "club" this morning (just discovered I'm PG last night), and thought I'd join the fun.

My username is not terribly creative, but I've found it's pretty unique (and therefore useful). It's the nickname my family has called me since I was a baby. My name is Christine, but when I was born my older sister (1 yr. old at the time) couldn't say it. She said "Tine" (pronounced "teeny") instead.

It stuck.

Not too creative. My last name is Angel. My husband and I had our last name changed to that because we weren't on speaking terms with either of our families at the time, and we met online, his screenname was 'Liquidangel' and I used 'Angel'. So we're the Angels. I like our 1st son's full name Gabriel Sterling Angel, because it's more of a picture too.
