Using cloth mama pads when out & about

I have a few hemp pads that I use occasionally at home, when I know I won't be going out. But for those of you who use mama pads all the time, how do you handle them when you're out of the house all day, or at work?

I'm imagining bulky pocketbooks and stinky ziploc bags.... is there a way to do it discreetly?

Definately a larger purse, and you can get waterproof bags designed to hold pads, dipes and the such. The tough thing is rinsing out sea sponge tampons in the sink, i'm always afraid someone will walk in. Bring alot of backup. Maybe you could have a special, beautiful and large sized purse that you carry only when menstruating...make it special and you won't mind the size.

A lot of times you can find a restroom with a sink in the handicapped stall - works great for cup users and sponge users. I use my cloth pads out and about, but usually I have a diaper bag. So, big and bulky is already normal (cd's, wipes, wet bag, etc.) I usually take an extra pair of undies, too.

I just use a zippy bag and I bring a few extras. It isn't too bulky and I haven't had any sort of odor problem.

I can wear a cloth pad for alot longer than I could ever wear a disposable pad. If I need to change one when I'm out, I fold up the ends and then the wings and fasten it up. I don't wear them without wings. I have a small purse that I take with me and when a pad is folded up it is quite small. I can hold one in my hand and people would hardly be able to see it, if they did they wouldn't know what it is. I have never noticed any smell by having one in my purse, even when I've forgotten it's there for a day or 2.

no problem with cloth pads at work. I use the kind without wings. I just fold them up and keep them in a pocket of my brief case. I just fold the used ones up. They don't leak or anything and as long as they are ventilated, they don't smell. I only need to carry 2 extras for a 9 hour work day. They aren't any bulkier than regular pads really.

Before getting pg I used cloth pads at work. Like a pp said I could go a lot longer in one before having to change like with disposables. I found a little makeup bag that fit the pads perfectly. I'd just keep a ziplock baggie in there, and carry the makeup bag with me to the restroom, fold up the old pad into thirds (mine don't have wings) and stuff into the baggie in the makeup bag. When I got home I'd just rinse out the used pads and toss them in the laundry. The bag fits great into even my smaller purses, and I've never had a problem with odor.

I have a wet bag that I toss in my backpack. I was intimidated at first, too, but it's no big deal.
