I've seen online how to make a birthing stool out of a toilet seat. Can't remember if you use the actual seat or use it just as a template...a creative mind could figure it out. Maybe I'll ask DH to make one for me one day! Not that I'll personally need it....
And I think people go to the hospital after an unexpected "out of hosp" birth b/c they want/need the hospital's stamp of approval that everyone is healthy. Plus there's that pesky placenta issue... Maybe that's the reason why.... They want to get the placenta "delivered" and thrown away. In any case, before I was educated about birth, I would've wanted to get to the hosp. asap after the baby's birth, even if it was healthy. But now, I've birthed both kids at home and would rather do it in a tree (which I saw on tv today...) than in a hosp.
And my MW had me put a chux pad under the toilet seat when I went to pee during labor w/ Lily. That was smart, seeing as so many babies are born there!!
Last thing, I've had a friend be turned away from L&D triage b/c she wasn't "in enough pain" to be in "real" labor. They just went across the street, had some food, and then went back to be admitted and then a FAST birth! I've even known a mama to give birth walking up the stairs to the L&D floor b/c they turned her away an hour before! The baby actually just slipped down the leg of her pants and hit its head on the stairs!!! Talk about a fast birth! And boy was she M-A-D!!!
