Finally got gussets to look decent!

I don't know how others feel about gussets, but while I love what they do, I do NOT like sewing them! I finally got a Quickwrap cover to look right and I'm happy! Oh, and getting the fleece binding on the curves around the wings can be iffy too. Anyway, I like the way it turned out and I'm actually not ashamed to let people see it!

I guess the practice and all the mistakes and do-overs do pay off, huh?

That looks great! You said it's bound in fleece? How did you pul off gussets with it being bound in fleece? I was thinking about doing that but hadn't figured out how to do the elastic in the gussets.

I used the Quickwrap pattern, and it instructs you to do the elastic and the binding on the gussets before you attach them to the body of the cover. After they're attached, you bind along the edges of the body, following the curve where the gusset is attached. I hope that made sense!

So are you using the binding as like a casing for the elastic or are you stitching through it? I've tried stitching through it and it just doesn't bunch up like I want it to. Maybe I have my machine on the wrong stitch setting. Any suggestions on what I should be using?

nak

I don't think it qualifies as a casing, though I could be wrong. Here's what i did: I used 1/4" elastic on the legs and in the back, tacking, then zigzagging as usual. Then, using the prepackaged fleece binding, wrapped it around the edges. The binding is a little wider than the elastic, so I just straight stitched close to the outside edge of the binding (farthest away from the fold) so it covers the elastic completely. I hope that made sense.

LOL, thanks! I've had a thing for reds and cherry prints lately. Not sure why, but this fit the requirements
