How do I remove rust stain from bathtub?

My tub faucet has been leaking slightly for about six months. It has created a big streak of rust on the tub where it drips. Last week we sold our home, and this afternoon is the home inspection ordered by the buyers. I got the brainy idea to remove the faucet handle and see if I could tighten things with screw driver and wrench to stop the leak, so they don't ask us to pay for a plumber. Lo and behold, it actually was that easy. No more leak. Should have done that six months ago.
Anyway, now I want to get rid of the rust stain before the inspector and the buyers come over. I'm pregnant and DH is out of town, so I would rather not use anything that will be particularly nasty to inhale. This is a job beyond baking soda and/or vinegar. I've been cleaning the tub weekly throughout the drip, and ordinary cleaners do not seem to be lightening the rust streak at all.
Advice?

Barkeeper's Friend works wonders..not the most organic cleanser on the market, but it works.

Barkeepers friend is a good powder you scrub on and rust comes off. This will also make brass look new again (although scratched as hell). It will clean porcelain so well, but it is of course abrasive.

"The Works" toilet bowl cleaner will immediately remove rust. One squirt and the rust runs off. I think this is super-chemically though.

CLR is another one. it stands for calcium , lime, rust. its super chemical too, though.

I have used a straight edge razor to scrap it off before.

You might try Bon Ami, we find it takes just about anything off tubs and such...

I use a cleaner called the works

CLR works really well on rust stains, limescale and calcium build-up.

I second the recommendation for BKF. It's oxalic acid, which is found in vegetables like swiss chard.

You could also cook some chard, eat your greens, and reserve the water for soaking the tub.

I must be a freak, b/c I have tried CLR for a rust ring (was there when we bought the house) around our sink drain several times and it doesn't work.

Try equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. My tub had hard water stains, and wouldn't get thoroughly clean, even with bleach. But after I used the peroxide and baking soda, it looked like a brand new tub. And a lot cheaper than that new "Kaboom" I've seen on an infomercial.
