My 5 yo son had 2 bottom molars filled last year due to cavities, shortly after the bottom (last molar) got infected and he wound up having that molar pulled. The other molars' filling eventually fell out (or he bit down on it so much being the last tooth it wore out) and dr. refilled but again this came out so last week the dentist put a resin crown on this molar to protect tooth from decay etc... Well that just fell out! So called dentist and she said to keep tooth clean and come back in next few weeks and she will try a stronger composite to fill but doesnt want to do stainless steel (although I dont know why she doesnt want to do stainless steel?)
My question is should I insist on stainless steel (what are pro and cons of stainless vs resin?)? I dont want him to have to eventually have a root canal bc this tooth cant be saved... and is with him for at least 7 more years, also bc of the 2nd molar being pulled out, they might need to be a spacer in in a few years when the 3rd molar comes in... so could that be why she doesnt want to do stainless steel...
any opinions thoughts etc would be appreciated... just trying to decide if should just try again with stronger resin or insist on stainless steel or not?
Thanks!
