I'm knitting a soaker and I'd like to embroider a sun on the front. Does anyone have a link to a simple pattern/design with good instructions for the very novice embroiderer?

I think Wooly Wonders is having an Embellishment Class. THat might be a fun way to learn more.
If your library has it, the Readers Digest Complete Guide to Needlework is a good place to start.
