Yesterday was my first OB appointment, and (as suspected) he doesn't do an ultrasound until 19 weeks. I didn't mind at all, though!!! The only thing I wanted to know was that this baby was in there, healthy, and thriving. It's amazing how uplifting that little rapid "thump thump thump thump" can be.
He said it might be a little early to hear anything (8wks 5days), but he got out the little hand-held microphone and used some ultrasound gel. We didn't hear anything for a minute, but then there it was!
I couldn't stop smiling for hours.
I swear, that heartbeat was one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard. This baby, this pregnancy, is so real to me now! I know she or he is in there, growing, and that in March I'll be holding a new baby. No more worrying about m/c or problems....in all likelihood, everything's going to be fine. I can finally breathe and just let go and love this baby with all my heart.
