Making wool covers with the VB side snapping cover pattern?

I have the pattern, I have the wool, I have felted the wool, and I am ready to make my cover. The pattern calls for PUL or Ultrex, neither of which I am interested in at this point. The pattern gave me a website to refer to for special wool instructions, but as of today there were no instructions for wool.

Any suggestions for making the actual cover? Any special thread, etc?

I've never worked with wool before, any handy tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would think you could just follow the regular directions and be fine.

Here's a link for making a wool-in-one.

Thanks so much! I made it last night and it looks interesting to say the least.

FOE is such an utter pain in the ass, though. Need to figure out something better for that.

Do you have a serger? Check out how Linda of Bubbies Baby Boutique makes them - she sells at www.weceedee.com click on the VB section and she has the prettiest orangey-red side snapping wool cover up near the top.

Thanks so much for the serging tip! It's so much easier and looks pretty good!

wool and elastic

When I make my wool covers, I serge the edges and use Lastin for the elastic. Then, I fold over the edges and stitch them down, being careful not to re-stitch the elastic. I figure you could also sew the elastic in a little ways from the edge, then fold over the fabric and do a two thread coverstitch, but I haven't tried it yet.

Doesn't the FOE get stinky before the wool does?

This is my concern and I actually just did a search to get an answer!

I have a collection of wool and a pattern and a ton of FOE, but this pops into my head everytime I get ready to sew!

I just made a test wool cover bound in FOE, but it may take a while to find the answer to that question, or maybe not. We'll see. I'm still in the testing phase. My question was, is there a certain type of thread that should be used in making diaper covers or is polyester just fine?
This was my first attempt at FOE. For a sewer just used to sitting down and sewing no problem, that stuff sure is tough to use : . I can't say that I did a pretty job, but at least it is on the cover to my satisfaction! However, I know that part of my problem was that it was very thick wool- too thick to do anything but FOE-that I was just trying to use up as a test case.
