Wet bags with zippers to share!

I made two wet bags a couple of weeks ago for a trip that I want to share. I used these instructions to sew them. They are both PUL lined with a decorative outer fabric and a zippered closure. The big one is just really big, I carried 4 days of used diapers in it and still had plenty of room for more. I did box the corner so that they didn't stick out when it was filled.

The smaller bag is put together a bit differently. I followed the directions I linked to put it together, but I inserted a zipper on both ends. I was a little nervous about whether it would come out right, but it did! (Sewing at 2am makes me nervous too!) Then I added two rows of stitching in the middle to divide the bag into two sections. I also added a strap and a couple of snaps so that it stays folded in half. I love this bag! Right now I keep a diaper and two wipes in one side, and a bib, wipe and spoon in the other. For most outings this is all I need, so it is perfect!

I thought I would share the link (which I found on a post at MDC, thanks!)and the bags I made to help anyone who wants to make wet bags.

Thanks for looking!

I thought I'd share my zippered wetbag on your thread:

This was my second wetbag ever and it turned out fabulous, I made it around a month ago. Now granted I don't have your incredible fabrics (love the one on the stroller handle) and I didn't go with the two bag design but it's a basic zippered wetbag that works great. I copied what I could see from my Little Lily wetbag as far as construction is concerned and didn't think there were online instructions since Google didn't pick any up.

Thanks guys!

Pigpen, I bought my PUL from Moonbucket, link for OSDS in her sig. The green print is from JoAnn's as a remnant, the wiggly print is from Hancock's. I've had them both for at least a year, as usual my need to buy fabric exceeds my time to sew.

Jessica, which print do you have? I think they would both make cute diapers/covers, I did save a diaper cut of the wiggly print.

Jenn, I love your fabric print too, I have it for pillows for my boys. I couldn't find wet bag directions either for the longest time, until someone posted the link I included here. Makes sense though, that you could make any size bag with the same basic instructions. Good for you, reverse engineering, my plastic grocery bags simply were not inspiring in any way!

Yeah, that's a fabric a mom donated here for the moms I sew for. I made that and gave it away along with 8 others I made. I was going to do a tutorial but I forgot - by the time I remembered I was on step 2 of the wetbags and I just didn't feel like taking them apart for the tutorial!

Anyway, thanks for the link!

Thanks so much for posting this! I tried making one today and it turned out great! I could never figure out how people made wetbags! Now I can make my own for my upcoming trip to Canada. I did one side of the zipper wrong but my little bag still works, just one side of the seam is showing on the inside (see what I get for sewing at 2:47am, wait, I do all my sewing this late!). Anyway, thanks so much, even I could do it.

PS I am too poor to buy PUL so I used an old shower curtain liner (after washing it of course!). We'll see how it holds up in the wash.

It's like magic or something that it works, isn't it! And I hear ya on the late night sewing. I found out a few days ago that I forgot to sew up the opening on the inside that you leave to turn everything inside out - by sticking myself with the pin I left in!

Let us know about the shower curtain. I bet it will be fine.

I just got my PUL in the mail the other day, so I'm planning on starting some bags soon. Has anyone noticed any wicking? That's what has kept me from even trying to make my own...TIA!
