One (Grandma's old singer from the 60's) has a broken gear but is in otherwise perfect condition. The repair guy said that it would be pointless to replace just one gear, since then that gear will somehow out-perform the others and then they'll all break eventually. He recommended throwing it out and getting a new machine.
The other is a "portable" Montgomery Ward that weighs a ton (I can barely lift it!). It works fine except it doesn't have a pedal! It was a freebie from an old neighbor.
Now, it would be nice if the pedal from the Singer could just plug into the MW machine, right? But of course it doesn't work that way - the plugs are different.
Here's the question: Should I 1) Fix the plug on the one pedal I have so it works on the other machine? (I think I could do this myself pretty easily with basic hardware store supplies), 2) Get the gears all replaced on the otherwise mint-condition Singer, which would cost about $150, or 3) Buy a new machine already!
