DP and I have been renting a house (she's still in school and we definitely don't want to plant roots here in the south!) and our landlord just recently informed us that he's not going to renew the lease because he and his fiance split up so he's moving back in here. We're very disappointed because by the time our lease is up DP will only have one more semester to complete before we could look for jobs in her field of work outside of this area. Plus, this house has a nice big backyard for ds to run around in, has big bedrooms, is in a nice quiet neighborhood, etc... all things that are hard to find for a reasonable rate over here right now (last year's hurricanes sent real estate costs through the roof). Anyway, that isn't the issue... the thing is, we've looked and haven't found any houses that meet our criteria, so our next option is finding apartment housing to live in until we can hightail it out of here. We started apartment hunting last week and came up with an unexpected dilemma. I've been a SAHM for almost a year now, and these places don't want to rent to us because I don't have a job! (Well, I just started working very part time, but I don't think 10 hours a week is what they have in mind!) They look at us as roommates who EACH need to make 2 1/2 to 3 times the rental amount, rather than a married couple who is looking to rent as a family.
: When we explained the situation to them, we were told that since it isn't a legal marriage they have to view us as two singles. The rule is in place so that if one of us moves out the other can cover the rent,

. I don't know how to approach this! Any ideas?
