Stupid newbie question

You guys are so brave to sew your own diapers! Kudos to all of you!

So I am thinking about sewing them, too. I am thinking the fitted or the pocket style will appeal to me the most. Regardless of which one I sew, I will have to have a cover for it, right? Unless I use PUL or is PUL just for the covers?

Also what does "rise" mean? Where is it measured from?

I have never seen anyone use CDs much less sew them, so I begin the adverture cluesless!

Thanks!

You can use pul in AIO & pocket diapers. You can also use fleece in it's place

If you make a pocket diaper like Fuzzi Bunz, the PUL is built in and you won't need a cover for that. But if you make a regular pocket diaper (no waterproof layers), then yes, you'll need a cover over it.

Rise is the measurement taken from the front waist (usually just around or below the belly button where they're pants waist band would hit) through their crotch and up over their bottom to the back area of the waist where their pants waist band would hit. Rises for covers are measured over a diaper, rises for diapers are measured loosely over just skin - don't pull too tight.

HTH!

Be sure to check out the diaper making resources sticky......and jump right in. You can start with really simple stuff like old tshirts and get a nice feel for diapers.

I hope you have fun !!

Thank you so much! I think I will try both the PUL and the fleece for a cover!
Thank you for defining rise! that doesn't sound to difficult to do!

I have spent several hours looking at the stickied resources pages. DH thinks I am a little nuts, but I say I ought to try it!

Thanks again, everyone!
