Hi ladies - I only own the little tiny tailor serger from Wal-Mart - I need to buy a *real* serger! :LOL Can any of you recommend one - preferrably under $300 if at all possible! I know there are some really nice ones for about $500 to $1000 but I just can't see spending that right now - any suggestions?
Thanks

Serger for sale

I have a Babylock BL4-838D that is about 5-years old and has very little wear. I'd love to sell it, for $150. It is in perfect condition (I just changed interests from crafts to running). Shipping based on actual cost from 32963 for 16 pounds.

I bought the Kenmore serger from Sears and I LOVE it! I've had it for about 4 months and I use it nearly every day. Once you get more than 4 layers (bulky layers like hemp for diaper making) or so under it it starts complaining, but I've used it for lots and lots o' stuff and I would buy another one in a second. Plus, with Sears' service plan they do a full service for free once a year and will fix it if anything goes wrong.

serger

A lot of towns have vaccumn repair shops and sewing machine repair shops that carry redone sergers and such. Pawn shops occasionally will have one also. E bay is also great. (I dont know why vac shops carry these, but in three towns I have lived in with vac repair shops, they have also carried sewing machines and sergers.

there are great deals on used machines on Ebay. Older model Juki and Babylock machines (from the 80's) are great workhorses and all metal. They were the first home machines made so they are very similar to industrial machines, just more user friendly. I got one for under $200 a few years ago from the original owner, so it had been treated well, not used a lot and had all it's accessories. The shipping should be around $30 for a well-packed machine, you might ask to have it professionally packed, which will cost a bit more.

Beleive it or not the Brother Serger 1034D found at W*lmart.com has been FABulous for me. I used it for 3 years for my cloth diaper business and it never once gave me problems, and it is still going strong (knock on wood). And I tried more expensive ones, other brands and I hated them all. I had a Janome--a 300.00 machine, a had a used Singer, I had a brand new Juki serger that was around $500.00 and a Kenmore and they all were terrible. Seriously. I would cry and pull my hair out with all of them.
