Sad sewing novice

So I spent a bunch of time hand stitching a wool soaker from a recycled sweater and it doesn't fit DD! I had a feeling it wouldn't but I'm pretty bummed just the same.

I've got these two sweaters (well one is now leftover pieces) felted and I still would like to make a soaker with the fabric. Can I make a bigger one? How do I make a bigger one? I'm a real newbie at this sewing thing but I want to finally get her out of her nighttime paper diapers.

I looked online for a soaker pattern using sweaters but they're all for smaller babes (with a prefold and a snappi DD's hips measure to about 23 in).

Any help would be great. I don't want to give up on my burgeoning crafty side...

ok this is just a guess. are you making the one from a triangle? once the triangle is as big as you can cut it I would insert a strip of the sweater where you would have just sewn the triangel. wow does that make any sense? where the seams are on each side of the front, insert extra fabric. trim to make it al even. this will give you an extra couple of inches all the way through from top to bottom wihtout really changing the shape of the cover. in mymind it works.

Hmmm, it is the one cut into a triangle. I'm going to try it tomorrow (I would tonight but I left it in the bedroom where DD is now sleeping) and share the results. Thx Lilyka!
