I know we could do the Home insem as an ICI rather than an IUI, but I am already using a speculum/mirror as one of my ways to check my OS for fertility every month, because I am awful at temping (I am the most NON morning person on the planet), and really good as far as using OPK's and checking my OS as a backup. I want to do this most specifically as a private experience with only the person I love/trust most in this world in the room (*hopefully* our DD decides not to wake up!). So I would choose ICI over IUI at home with a MW. if I wanted to do that (home w/MW) we would do the clinc part we've already been doing at our crunchy granola clinic.
I have had a really easy time over the last eight months locating my cervix etc. using the speculum so I figure since I'm already finding it what's one more step? I am a really focused person when it comes to that kind of stuff (grose sounding I know, but due to a deathy fear of others with needles over the years I have pierced my own ears/cartilage/navel), I have only had one vax in my life, for Rubella 8 mos ago before we started TTC.I read the book *poisoned needle* at age 6, and boyyy did that one scare & educate me at a young age!
I want for this just once to *not* be a medicalized experience, and to be in our own home. We are planning a home birth (my Dp is NOT liking the idea of a UC, but I would press the issue strongly *if* we can't get a midwife. The situation in Illinois is currenly dire for those planning homebirths. So September and our next AI can't come too soon for me.
