Samara Rivka arrived 8/3 -- happy thoughts, please! -- UPDATED - Page 2

WOW! She is absoutely gorgeous! What a beautiful family you have.

Can I ask you a question? Sorry, it's in my professional passion to look for stuff like this - in all three pics it looks like Samara's head is turned the same way. Can she turn her head to the right w/o being fussy? The reason I look for this is because torticollis is soooo much easier corrected earlier than later It could be just coincidence which is why I'm asking.

You did a great job mama. She is perfect.

Thanks for asking, Kristin -- I appreciate the concern. She's not particularly fussy at all, so far, but she does nurse a little better on my right breast than my left, which would mean that her head is turned to the left on the side she nurses on better. However, this seems to get better every day. What is torticollis? I've never heard of it before.

Thanks again for thinking of this -- I'm interested in whatever you have to say.

Yep, the nursing better on one side is definitely another sign of torticollis, which is basically a torsion/twisting/tilting (torti) of the neck (collis) caused by muscle spasm or shortening, usually of the sternocleidomastoid, most often due to spinal subluxation in the neck. This is most frequently caused by intrauterine malposition and/or birth trauma but can have other causes as well. See here or here and I know there is more info on icpa4kids.com if you want to do a search for it.

Hope this gives you some information. MDs who don't understand chiropractic might try to tell you that it will eventually resolve on its own after a few months (which is usually doesn't), but trust me, it is harder to correct by that time. Let me know if I can help in any way.
