Does anyone ever kinda miss hand embroidery stuff?

I know machine embroidery is what most people do these days... and with good cause, you can do stuff that isn't even possible with hand embroidery, among other reasons...

But, does anyone kinda miss hand embroidered stuff?

I love how it looks... the simplicity of the designs, the unique touch...

Machine embroidery is so generic looking compared to that.

Not that I can personally do machine embroidery OR hand embroidery! Other than cross stitch, LOL.

I do both machine and hand embroidery and I think they are so different its hard to even compare them. They serve such different purposes. They both have positives and negatives and I don't think either one is BETTER than the other.

I love hand embroidery and (being a medieval reenactor) still do quite a bit. Just recently I made a poncho for a little girl's birthday party. The commercial pattern called for ties at the neck. But what 2 yo can tie their own coat? So I replaced the ties with 1 button and a loop. I'm really glad I know how to handwork button loops! It didn't take long and was a simple closure. But no (easy sew) modern commercial pattern would use that!

I frequently handwork around applique, especially v. small ones instead of machine satin stitch. Really doesn't take that long and is quite satisfactory.

I love hand worked embroidery, but it doesn't hold up well to rigorous laundry routines (well, mine doesn't, anyway). For thinge like burp cloths and diapers, well, they'd just be a sorry mess all too soon. For things that don't require a lot of washing, though, I particularly love doing ribbon embroidery!
