More than smart, in NJ it's the law

I got the magazine/flier from my local hospital in the mail today and it has this ad in it.

Immunizing our children is more than smart, in NJ it's the law.

Then it lists all of the vaxs kids are supposed to have and when. I have a serious issue with this. Not only are they trying to scare people into vaxs, but thier info is not correct.

Sure the law requries that if you enter Kindergarden you have to have bla and bla vax, but you can get a waiver. Or, you don't have to enter a public school.

This just ticked me off b/c it's not the truth and it's trying to scare people into vaxing. Pretty pathetic that they need to resport to scare tactics for something that's so "safe and good" for our kids.

We probably got the same magazine as you yesterday. The one from HMC? I thought the same thing. Scare tactic. I homeschool my kids so it is not an issue. The sad thing is most people don't question things or know their rights.

I agree, very pathetic. Hopefully people know how to look up the laws for themselves.

Yep. That's the one. I'm actually in that magazine with my DS. We're on page 6 in the box that says HMC's Baby Fair. I helped out with the fair to encourage people to try med free births and hynobirthing.

Anyway, Patti Ann..are you in Hunterdon County?

Yes, I'm in Hunterdon County. I am actually an l&D nurse at the hospital. Small world. I'll look for your picture. I take it you used the hypnobirthing. Sadly it seems more and more of our patients are getting epidurals. When I first started there there was so much less intervention.

Didn't you like the question we ask you about wanting to sign up for the New Jersey database for immunizations. So the state can send you info when your child is due for vaccinations. My take on this is that it is just the state's way of having records on people. Big brother watching over us.

I get the impression most people do not and would accept this flyer as truth b/c it came from a reputable source.

The solution is to sight the law and the exemption to the law and get it into the local newspaper.

It isn't right that school papers always say mandated, when they are not mandatory or required. In VA the school physical form states a brief view words with the code section for the religious exemption, but that is all you would ever see and with it being in the section for health care workers to fill out, I would gather most parents never fully read that page.

Why would they lie? They're trying to help you, not scare you
