I am involved in a pretty nasty vaccine debate and I could really use some back up. Anyone interested???? I know I am not supposed to post a link but if you are maybe I can PM it to you? Is that against the rules?

Here are some quotes to grab your attnetion

What kind of evil quack would perform chiropractics on a 3 month old baby, and what kind of mother would let him or her!!

Parents should be very angry that some people spread lies that hurt children. In reality, people like crunchymama are (knowingly or otherwise) spreading myths, lies, and misinformation that encourages people to neglect their chidlren's medical care

.By the way, Mothering Mag. is notorious for scare tactics.

As for hurting a baby by not vaccinating them...what about the dead baby from SIDS who was vaccinated earlier in the day?

If someone does not want to take their baby to a chiropractor, they do not have to...but the person who does not want to take their baby to a medical doctor is accused of neglect...what is wrong with this picture here?

I have been reading Mothering nearly 30 years and I have never been scared. I have been scared plenty in doctors' offices however.

Some things doctors have done in the past in doctors' offices...
unnecessary tonsilectomies
radium boxes
DES
vaccinations
early solids
formulas
leg braces
shoe braces
circumcisions
X-rays
fluoride drops

OT-My name is Desiree, too!

I get the same comments when I talk to people about vax. Of course the same people who say things about it are the people in dh's family who are anti-breastfeeding, anti-cosleeping, anti-babywearing, anti-my child has a dairy allergy, anti-nemo fruit snacks aren't breakfast foods.

So I don't even bother most of the time with the debate. I just leave the room. :

The whole chiropractor thing threw me a bit. I have never heard of or had a chiropractor tell me it was unethical to treat a child under 9. I have a (somewhat) mainstream friend who has been bringing her son to the chiropractor from the time he was about 2.
I have been told I am neglecting my children's medical needs because I don't give them meds unless they really need it. lol
OH and vaccines don't really casue serious problems.<rolls eyes> Vaers was set up because America is sue happy.
(BTW I am crunchymama over there.)

I don't information to add because I know these other mamas are a lot more knowledgeable than I! But I wanted to add some sympathy with the debate issue... DH got into this debate with a co-worker the other day who refuses to believe there could be anything dangerous about vaxing. He would NOT believe there was ever mercury in them! He said the govt wouldn't let them put it in there. Yeah, the American govt has never allowed anything dangerous or unhealthy to happen to any of us... Then why did they ADMIT it was a problem and "recommend" that mercury-free vaxes be made?

He told DH he'd hate to be that parent whose kid is in the small percentage that contracts some "awful" disease because he wasn't vaxed. And DH said he'd hate to be that parent whose kid is injured because he vaccinated them. I my DH!

The same co-worker just couldn't believe that we'd not circ. He asked why on earth we wouldn't want to do something that could prevent infections, diseases, etc. DH told him because a) it doesn't b) circ can CAUSE infections at the wound site and c) it was cruel and unnecessary.

I don't know why he bothers even entertaining the debates though. I'm giving up on most people, sadly. I only try to educate people who seem like they could actually listen. Although I do try to give lots of great info without being defensive when someone asks why we do something... or if they try to attack us.

Good luck with your debate, amanda2b2!

I tried to post and it wouldnt let me! ARG......it was a huge post too! Oh well. At least these people know they have an option. If they choose not to research, it is on them. I just hope their poor kids arent damaged.

It will forever amaze me that letting people know the entire picture as opposed to just a slice is considered scare tactics by some people.

Educating oneself is enlightening...and REDUCES fear.

I got into this debate with a coworker yesterday. It's well know in my department that I homebirth and breastfeed (the bumper stickers on my car help spread the word to those who don't know my *stories*). :bg Anyway, he did tell me he knew of the mercury additives and that he read somewhere that the link to autism and vaccines seem to happen to those who cannot expel heavy metals out of their system. (I was, like, okay, you get the picture) Then when he said that mercury hasn't been added in vaccines since 2003 and that those that have it, is in small quantities, I almost had to laugh. He truly believes that there are more mercury in fish than in vaccines. I told him, that may be true, but when you give a baby as many vaccines as they are supposed to, there is an overload on their bodies. I told him about what I remember about Japan mandated that no child under 2 shall receive any vaccines and that the rate of SIDS and autism drastically dropped. He came back with the argument that autism is on the rise because doctors and parents are too quick to label a child who is slow as *autistic.* Then we got into a whole debate about homebirth. (And don't get me started on that one!!!!

What also got me upset, with myself, is that I couldn't think of the comebacks and reasons for what I believe in. GRRRRRR

So I too, what to get as much info as possible to give to him. (He did ask for it, btw.) Is the website 909shot.com a good place to look besides at this forum? (Is that the right link?)
