Fabrics for Mei Tai/ABC?

I finally got my mei tai tester sewn up and I like it so I want to make a nice, substantial one. what is best for the straps as far as comfort and durability? I have some nice twill, some fine wale cordouroy and also some light/medium wt. denim. The body fabric I want to use has a bit of stretch to it, if that matters.

Are you doing constructed straps, or wrap-style straps? I've been doing the pleated wrap-style straps, and so far I like either 12" wide gauze, or 10-12" wide muslin-weight cotton. I've never don the narrower straps, so I can't comment on the comfort-level of those.
For the carrier body, I've really liked the feel of a layer of jeans-weight denim (I used the leg of a pair of jeans ) backed with a lighter-weight decorative fabric.

WEll, I'm not sure what constructed straps would be? But I don't think I'm doing those. I was just planning on doing long strips of 12" wide fabric folded in half and sewn up the side so I'm thinking that's the wrap style. Never thought to use gauze for the straps and I can't find my muslin.?? Then, you should see my fabric stash. Yikes. It could use a little organization. :LOL
So, the denim isn't too heavy? Not even when tyeing? That's what I would be worried about. Thanks.

Wrap-style straps are just a single layer and hemmed at the edges. They're pleated where they join the carrier and fan out over the shoulder when you use it.
I've seen instructions thar say to use a heavy fabric for the straps, too, but I don't know that I would, personally. I have a hard enough time tying a 4-layer 3" wide muslin strap - I can just imagine the size of the knots with thicker fabric!

oh, that sounds like the ideal strap for me., thanks

I like the wrap style strap idea. I've seen that before, but never made one. I think I have a weekend project!

I use a denim weight for mine. They stay better after washing than the twill I think. Good Luck!

I used a mid-weight twill for a Frankenkozy and it was way too thick. Next time I'll do a much lighter fabric..you should of seen the size of the knots on that thing! :LOL
