I'm just full of questions...

Lol- I had laughed about this yesterday when Kristen had mentioned it in her post. Mine are pads frozen with water and Comfrey and used for postpartum. You can use frozen condoms too (but i'm super allergic to latex) you just freeze them ahead of time. My SIL was actually given these at the hospital so they might give you some.

Oh!

So maybe I could use a bag of peas or something?

Oh, honestly...I've read so much about how to prepare for birthing and know so little about the discomforts of afterwards. I didn't even know it would prob hurt to pee afterwards until about 2 weeks ago!!

Ah, I am a mama newbie.

It didn't hurt me to pee. But I had severe incontenence (pee problems) afterwards. I think it might have had to do with I had an epidural and a catheter. Anyway, If I didn't go pee on the toilet every hour or so, I would just leak. Even if it didn't feel like I had to go. :

Also if you DO take any pain meds after the fact, remember that they are a constipator. I didn't know this and it made an already painful bottom worse when I had to poop.

All in all, other than the going to the bathroom problems, I really didn't have too much pain. My bruised tailbone was the worst. The only things i really did for comfort was the periwash bottle and some steriod foam they sent me home to reduce swelling. I think I will get some postpartum herbs for a soak this time.

My midwife recommends pads soaked in witch hazel and frozen ahead of time (plastic between them so you don't have one large frozen pad). :-)

I have never heard of that! Too funny! I have a feeling I'm going to be sore after this birth...will have to give it a try!

I just bought witch hazel and stuff yesterday to make twatsicles!! I also have a sitz bath herbal bag ready. I hope I have a vaginal birth this time because I am well prepared!!

hahaha

yep, I use a herb mixture that I brew into a strong tea (comfrey, shepherds purse, uva ursa leaves) and then mix in some witch hazel. Then I use a turkey baster to squeeze it onto overnight pads, wrap them back up in their plastic packages, and freeze them. Apparently they stay in place really well with men's boxer briefs.

I will use the same mixture to put in the peri bottle to wash myself after peeing.

Oh good. I was going to ask if I could put the bath mixture in the peri bottle, instead of just plain water. I shall do just that.

OMG. I have to commend you ladies, I think it is definetly a good idea I am adopting. I am very squeamish and when I opened this thread I thought it was a joke. But oh my gosh what you can learn in 2 minutes...

Oooh, I'll have to remember to do this for when it's my time....At the hospital, they had special postpartum pads that were like those ice packs you're supposed to keep in a first aid kit-where you break the middle, and they turn ice cold. Very nice. I never had an epis, but that helped with the "road rash" that I got (second child, I didn't even have that-in fact, I didn't even really feel the ring of fire from him crowning)

Wow, I'm an RN and I've never heard them called that before, but we have given patients an ice pack for their crotch before, same concept. I guess I should make some twatsicles for home, since I'm so very preggo right now and ready to pop. They didn't give us ice down pads at my hospital... I wish they would have.

After labour I simply put crushed ice in a little ziploc bag in between the layers of the flats I was using as PP pads. My midwife said to only use them for 24 hours after birth, after that they can make the swelling worse. I really only needed them that long anyways. It's not that bad though, don't freak out about it. I'm hardly swollen 3 days later.

You mean they didn't teach you the official medical term "twatsicle" in nursing school?! What kind of school did you attend?

Lol, believe me I know a lot of other, "slang" medical terms though. If I were an ob nurse, I'd probably know of a twatsicle, but I've always worked critical care. I can tell you what a, "black pearl" is.

He, he, he..ever since DH heard the word from kristen the other day he has been throwing it in in conversations (with me- he's a loveable freak) and he promises to prep some for me with some kind of ginger recipe he saw somewhere here I think, oh I guess in the Deepak Chopra pregnancy book.
It's a good fun word, I must agree. :LOL

When I had my DD, I was given a newborn size disposable diaper that had been stuffed with ice chips. (The seam at the waist of the diaper is torn open and then stuffed.) The diaper absorbed the ice as it melted and stayed cold for a long time. I still look back on wearing them fondly.

I was thinking of making them at home but realized that ice cubes may be a little bulky.
