Boycott Boppy! - Page 4

hi all- just wanted to put in my 2 cents- i understand the reasoning behind boycotting boppy, but just wanted to give a different perspective...we have been involved with the company a bunch here in denver- alex & I have been to several photo shoots with them- they have been super supportive of BF'ing in everything we have been at. the pillow was actually designed as a support for baby way before nursing, it wasn't until mama's started using it that way that they changed their approach. i actually did a product testing a few months back on a new design that is completely designed for BFing- no mention of FFing or bottles at all! they were trying to figure out how to make it more comfy for short big-breasted mamas, like me so, that said, boycott away, but i don't think they are trying to put FF on equal ground- they're just a company that markets to a large group, mamas, daddies, whatever because they have a product that can be used in multiple ways.

I hear what you're saying, but that's not what she said. She said they did not promote one method of feeding over another; they were just selling pillows. Maybe I just happened to get one person who didn't know what the heck she was talking about answering my emails; she never even bothered to answer my reply to her.

Hey, that's me. I was given boppy's as gifts with my first 2 kids but couldn't figure out how the heck they could help anyone nurse. They didn't work for me at all. I was 5'3" 110 pounds with H cups, my kid could lay on my lap and nurse, lifting them up onto a boppy just made things akward as hell.

Thanks for all the info, I definetly won't be buying another boppy!!!

I never liked my Boppy, anyway, it was too small to fit around my waist comfortably and ds would slip between it and me. I liked My Brest Friend much better, it velcroed on.

Thanks for the link! I'd much rather make something myself anyway- can't trust any big for-profit to have your best interests in mind...

While I think a boycott is justified in this case, I just wanted to say that my Boppy pillow was a lifesaver in my early breastfeeding months. I wasn't comfortable without it. If it makes breastfeeding easier for some moms, than they should try it. The My Breast Friend pillow is great but isn't sold everywhere like the Boppy, so is not as easy to get as simply running to Target for a Boppy. Anything that makes breastfeeding more "do-able" for some moms is all fine by me.

I've had two Boppies... just passed mine on to a momma with preemie twins. I gifted two or three of them as well.

I just got a and figured I'd get another Boppy but I'll be buying a My Brest Friend this time I guess! :

My SIL uses a body pillow for nursing support. It's really great because she can smush it around until it's whereever and however she wants.

There's no problem with stating that the pillow is useful for bottlefeeding as long as they don't equate it to breastfeeding?

Also, any company that alligns itself with formula companies is problematic, regardless of their product line, right?
Actually this is how I feel, I think that they are attempting to subvert a known BF audience with formula is NORM mesages.

I never reccomend Boppy's anyway, the MBF pillow is so much nicer.

Thanks If they are violating the WHO code Mothering should not allow their advertizement, I hope Peggy or someone could visit this thread and comment.

I love my Boppy, I carried it around for 6 months straight when dd was first born, I was completely dependent on it because I have such a high waist. I recommend it for friends, and I have loaned it out in the past for people to try to see if they like it.

Today, I talked to two people who said they stopped bfing after 6 weeks for different reasons, and they said they feel guilty for having to stop, especially with all the media attention that bfing is getting (formula ads say that breast is best.) I told them they did their best, gave their babies as good of a start as they could, and maybe next time they'll go longer.

: I have used my Boppy nearly every day for 3 years! My toddler still likes to nurse on it, and I actually prefer it over my Ez 2 nurse twins pillow. Well, I promise not to buy anymore Boppies but I am not getting rid of mine. On a side note, I never thought they were especially exclusively breastfeeding friendly, because on the package and ads they always show a bottle feeding baby, too.

Has everyone gotten their two cents in here, or has someone been missed?

It gives a little better support IMO than the Boppy and holding up better so far (I had three different Boppy pillows that all fell apart in 52 months of nursing)
