The not so quick version (lots of details that might be tmi):
contractions got more painful around 10pm
at midnight I called my midwife to check in since I hadn't called in a few hours and I wanted to talk to her before she went to bed. She came over monitored the contrations a while, listened to his heartbeat. She said she was going to try to get some sleep and to call if anything changed. She also wanted dh and I to try to sleep.
We got into bed at 2ish but I couldn't sleep. I'd get two "regular" contractions I could just breath through and then one I had to moan through. I really wanted dh to at least get sleep so I left the bedroom and came in here. You all were asleep though and couldn't entertain me!
At 3ish I wanted to get in the pool so I had dh start filling it and getting it ready. I got in the bath to hold me over.
The pool was almost ready at 4 (that sucker takes a long time to fill!) so I was laying on the couch on my side with my leg up. My water broke and arched up to hit my top leg before cascading down. Then things started getting painful.
The midwife came about 2 minutes after my water broke.
I sat on the toilet a few minutes longer, crying and moaning loudly. She saw that things were going fast so she grabbed her stuff and got things set up.
I got in the pool around 4:30ish. dd woke up after that and came in the kitchen. Then dh took her to the living room and reminded her what was happening and started a movie for her.
I was crying at this point, definitely in transition. I kept asking her how much longer would it be.
Around 4:45 I started pushing involuntarily. I didn't know what was happening at that point. I told her that it burned on the inside and she suggested that I not push to help it go slower. I told her I wasn't pushing on purpose.
At this point I started getting a bit more time between contractions to breathe. Things were still coming so fast.
Like I said I didn't push at all and just let my uterus do all the work. During the last 3 contractions I swore I was going to rip right up the front. I panted to try to stop the pushing because it burned so much. His head just felt huge in my hips (and so did the rest of him).
5:25 his whole head was out, I pushed a tiny bit and the rest of him easily slipped right out.
dh and dd came in the room just in time.
I had no tears much to my surprise. My tailbone feels most sore but nothing like after dd's birth.
Even though with her birth I had a full night's sleep before and didn't labor I felt like someone had beat me up.
I'm feeling great! If I could walk faster I'd be happy to do just about anything right now.
