First Appointments - Page 2

No, you don't need a shot early, and you don't need testing in the 1st tri unless you have preterm bleeding. IIRC, for me they did the test around when I got the shot (~26 or 28 wks).

With my first baby they wouldn't fit me in for an appointment until I was at least 9 weeks. With this new doctor, they wanted me in ASAP. I go in tomorrow (I'll be 6 weeks). Honestly, I was a bit surprised they wanted me in so early.

With this pg I will be seeing my OB at first -- about the 8.5 week mark (I did have an app't at the 6 week mark, but had to reschedule). I will officially transfer into midwifery care about halfway through the pg, but I can go in and see my m/ws pretty much anytime I would like before that. With my last pg, I actually went in to my m/ws on the very day I got my bfp. I think it is nice to get started early -- you have support and answers, besides I just love my m/ws, so I like to get in asap!

My midwife wants me in for the antibody check asap so I'll get that done next week and then see her again at 11weeks. KKMama thanks for the advice, I think our system here must be different as I was checked early in my pregnancy with ds too.

My doctor doesn't see pg clients until they are about 10 weeks. I go on Sept. 8th for blood work and history and insurance stuff and then I go on the 21st and actually see the doc for the first time.

ETA: right now, I am calculating that I am about 7 weeks.

my first appointment is 9-6 that is to just confirm my pregnancy and then set up maybe the rest of my initial appointments.

but with my DD i didn't get seen until I was 11wks along, so it's pretty normal I think

This thread reminded me, so I just called the birth center to make my 1st appointment. Their first opening is October 3rd! I'll be almost 12 weeks at that point. But they said that b/c my RE is following me for now, it shouldn't be a problem. It's probably going to be 4 weeks between when the RE sends me on my way and the midwife sees me!

I have to say, it's cool to project into this pregnancy. It's a contrast to the frequent tests, etc, that keep me so trapped in being scared.

It is cool to start planning...and neccessary...and freaky all at the same time. I had stopped planning my life around the possibility of getting pregnant, and now I have to think about all this stuff. And part of me is just superstitious enough to be really freaked out about planning for this baby. Maybe when I am obviously pregnant I won't be so freaked out. :LOL

My first appt will be on Sept 2nd. I will just be 7 weeks then. Man, I can't wait until October.

ITA - I feel like I'm just holding my breath until October gets here. We plan to tell our families around that time. I just need to pass the 12 week mark and hopefully be feeling some obvious signs of growth and I think I'll feel a lot more at ease.
