Question about Nestle Boycott

Thread Starter
Is the list of products they own in the back of Milk, Money and Madness still up to date? Is there a more up to date list? I just read the book and . I want to make sure I don't accidentally buy a product they have acquired since the publication of the book. TIA Mommas!

I don't know what the book says, but here's a really good site that should definately have updated information.
The main page for Nestle on that site is HERE. FYI, they are one of the nine companies on that site's sh*tlist. :LOL

HTH!

bjorker, thanks for the link to the BadCorp site! I had no idea that Philip Morris owns food product brands, I only knew them for their tobacco products. But now I know that they own Kraft and Nabisco, etc. Wowza. I'll be looking for that "Altria" logo on food products. Or this might be the last straw for me for mainstream grocery stores - I've been buying more and more "natural foods" and fewer mainstream products. Nestle, Kraft, and Nabisco seem to own the whole mainstream grocery store.

My DH works across the street from their headquarters in Richmond, VA, so I think about them often. It had never occurred to me that a non-smoker could participate in a PM boycott...silly me, why did I assume that they weren't affiliated with other companies?

THanks for the list funshine! It has expanded since the book was published. I'll print that out and keep it with me when I grocery shop in mainstream stores. That's wild about PM owning food companies. Who knew?? I agree - BJorker, that is a cool site!

You're welcome, all. Glad I could share it, it's definately come in handy for me many times. After I too realised that PM owned Kraft and Nabisco, the next shopping trip after that was hell. I swear I saw KRAFT everywhere! And in all of my carefulness, I still came home with a Kraft product: A1 Steak Sauce! : I couldn't believe that I could be so conscious of it and STILL end up with a product of theirs.

That's still not as bad as Nestle, IMO. When I see the row of their stuff I have to calm myself before I start throwing things

I agree Bjorker - Nestle in my opinion is much worse. Although I know PM advertises in ways that encourage young teens to smoke, the majority of their clients are still adults, and adults can do what they want IMO. Nestle, on the other hand, markets a product unethically that will be used on infants, a clientele that has no voice and no hand in the choice. If I had to choose to boycott one or the other, it would be Nestle.

Arrowhead water is also owned by Nestle. Gets me every time I am trying to buys a quick bottle of water in the convenience store. :

You can also choose to boycot both.

Definitely not going to argue over whether one company is worse than another. They're both bad and I don't want to support either. I can see devoting more energy to one or the other, depending on what is important to you at this point in time. I'm going to try to avoid both of them, and Sara Lee as well. This will probably mean driving into the city to shop at a natural foods store instead of being able to shop at the grocery store 5 minutes away from my house.

Speaking of the evils of Nestle, have you seen their policy on infant formula? It made me queasy: http://www.nestle.com/Our_Responsibi...he+Charter.htm

I shared the badcorp.com info with my brother and SIL. One of their friends said something to the effect that if PM knowingly puts poison into their cigarettes, why would you trust them with food? :

funshine, Don't worry, they're both on my list :LOL ! If you don't mind me asking, what's the deal with Saralee? I'm so out of the loop !

Go to the badcorp.com site that bjorker linked us to. They have nine main corporations on their list:
Philip Morris
GE
GAP
Nestle
Nike
Monsanto
Sara Lee
McDonald's
Exxon

You can click on each logo on the main page to see the complaints against each corporation and from there you can find what brands are associated with each corporation. There's a pile of different accusations against SL. And like the other companies, I didn't realize how many brands they own. Ayiyiyiyi, it makes your head spin.
